Kemper Auto Insurance is the WORST EVER I HAVE EXPERIENCED. After calling in a new CCrd to a KEMPER AGENT i requested the COVID discount. The agent told me that my payment was $80 instead of the $92 because they applied my discount. Six months after a Kemper customer caused an accident that destroyed my vehicle, I have not received a penny from them. They declared my vehicle totaled and towed it away a month after the accident, but still won't answer my phone calls asking where it is or when they will make an offer.

I have a "legacy" policy from Kemper. Two vehicles, full coverage, highest limits, $500/$250 deductibles, highest rental for a full month, paying $1104.00 per year. Never had a problem with them, and they've been very, very good to me. I used to have USAA, then Liberty Mutual, but dumped them due to excessively high rate increases.

This insurance hasn't worked; they took my money. I paid for a full year in advance because they offered me a discount. A couple of months later, they canceled my policy, stating that I never sent the proof of where I live and my home insurance. I spent 3 hours talking with them, and they told me they would fix the problem. Last week, I received a letter stating that I owe money and they never reinstated my insurance. I spoke with Angela Fernandez, the supervisor, and with Pablo, the agent. They told me for about 4 hours that they can't fix it, that I still need to pay $108.00 for some charges, and they canceled my insurance 4 months before the expiration date and they can't fix the problem. I told them if they don't want to cover my policy, I need a refund for those months, and they keep saying that they can't. I paid for the full year in advance, and they only took my money. One star is too much for them; they only take the money and the customer service sounds like robots, just repeating "I can't fix the problem." This is terrible insurance.

I took my car to get a simple body damage estimate. Kemper told me it would cost $729 to fix it. But instead of just inspecting it, they instructed the collision shop to disassemble my car completely. Without warning, they declared it a total loss.

I signed a power of attorney form trusting they would resolve the claim fairly. But after holding my car hostage for two months, they suddenly denied the claim and returned my vehicle destroyed and unrecognizable.

They stripped it of the door handles,

removed the drive shaft (it's no longer drivable),

and now accuse me of insurance fraud, even though I've provided proof of my innocence.

I still owe $17,000 on the vehicle and have been paying monthly just to keep my credit intact. Kemper has blocked me from all communication, refused to let me appeal the denied claim (which violates their own policy), and even took legal action against me—all after I filed a complaint with the BBB.

Now I'm facing criminal charges, and I urgently need help to:

The customer service is very disrespectful. Talking to the adjuster, Vashaun De Silva, does not constitute good customer service and is very disrespectful when just asking questions.

The worst, poorest, laziest customer service/agents. My 'agent' Paul was so lazy and careless. They want you to be blamed for accidents so they can charge you more. They do nothing to support you; they support you losing against claims so they can jack up your insurance costs. The worst company. Stay away.

This is the worst company in the world. The adjuster never responds. You spend hours calling, sending emails, leaving voice messages, and nothing happens. Don't use this company; people who answer the phone never help, and your claim goes nowhere. Bad service, bad communication. Don't get this insurance; it's cheaper, but it will be a pain if you need to file a claim.

On April 27th, 2025, I was hit by a Kemper client who did not even have a license. He was driving his parents' car. He was from another country and admitted he was at fault; my car was towed. It cost me $400.00 to retrieve it and have it towed to my home. After several calls to their adjuster, I finally managed to speak with him. He informed me that the car was a total loss. He mentioned that he had sent his client a letter and left many messages, but they will not return his calls. He requested pictures and an accident report, which I told him he could order himself. When I called them today, I received a call from a lady who stated they could not get in touch with their client. I asked what that meant for me since I no longer have my car, and the first adjuster had declared it a total loss. She explained that if they could not make contact with their client, they would close the file. I questioned what that would mean for me, and she suggested I turn to my insurance. I refused, stating that I was not at fault. It is unreasonable for an insurance company to dismiss someone with a mere apology.

I used to work for Kemper when it was called Unitrin, long ago. I have also worked for several other companies. Normally claims are reported by the insured; it's fairly rare for the third party to report a claim. But at Unitrin about a third of the claims were reported by the third party, which meant that the adjuster then had to attempt to reach the insured to ask them to file a claim. It was pretty common for the insured to not return our calls, and also pretty common for them to deny being in an accident. Here's what you have to realize about auto insurance: it's entirely up to the insured as to whether or not they want to use the insurance. If they decline to file the claim then there's nothing that the insurance company, any insurance company, can do. In addition, most of our policies were minimum coverage policies. It was common for the damage on the third parties car to be in excess of the policy limit, which meant that if your car had $7,000 damage and the policy limit was $5,000, all we could pay you was $5,000. Also, a lot of the problems with claims were created by the insureds lying about how the claim happened and the amount of damage done. It was fairly common for the insured to rear-end someone and then claim that a phantom vehicle had rear-ended them and pushed them into the claimant vehicle. Of all the companies that I worked at Unitrin was the only one that thought that every person they dealt with, including body shops and even their own employees, was a criminal trying to commit fraud. All of the adjusters, even those with decades of experience, were closely supervised and treated as if they had only been doing the job for a couple of weeks. I received a couple of complimentary letters from parties that I had handled a claim for; at a company meeting I discovered that the company considered this proof that I was doing a bad job. The damage appraisals on vehicles were deliberately (but legally) written as low as possible because the company knew that a lot of the cars would never be repaired. If they did get repaired then we would end up paying an additional sum.

Very difficult to get a response or reimbursement from Kemper. I was hit by a party insured by Kemper. They take forever to respond. The accident happened in February, and as of April, they had not reimbursed for rental coverage. I emailed them and left several voicemails with no response. I finally wrote a review on Yelp, and they called me after that but then refused to fully reimburse for the rental. They claimed they only reimburse up to $30 per day, which is an incredibly low rate and impossible to find any rental car for. I also drive a truck for work and needed a truck as the rental, and they still wouldn't cover the full rental despite not communicating any of this in advance.

Horrible insurance company; they give you the runaround. Alexandra is the supervisor of a team. She doesn't do her job and is never available. I've left so many messages, but she never responds. This company owes me a reimbursement, and my vehicle needs to be fixed. I have a claim number, and nobody seems to care. Mireya is one of the adjusters that work under Alexandra's supervision. She is full of lies. She told me one thing, and the next day she tells me another. My calls are being hung up on; my calls are being ignored, and my concerns are being avoided—very unprofessional.

People need to understand that we can contact the BBB, state bar, and consumer affairs if anybody has issues with the company not fulfilling their obligations. Make sure you guys contact the information I listed. Again, it's a horrible insurance company. They have almost a one-star rating. How are they still in business? Their license needs to be revoked, or they need to be put on probation. They are scammers, focused on the money, not caring who they owe. They'll wait until the last minute or until the state intervenes.

Again, it's a terrible company; stay away from them. Do not get insurance from these individuals; you will go through a hassle and headache. Someone needs to put this to an end. They need to be shut down. People shouldn't have to go through this; we have lives to live.

Furthermore, Alexandra needs to be replaced. I left messages with my phone number, and she's never contacted me about my concerns. It's been going on for a few months now. Ladies and gentlemen, be aware.

Worst company for life insurance. Run! They changed the name on the policy to another family member, never returned phone calls, or came by my house. But when it comes to collecting money, you come faithfully. Called the main office with a claim; no one answers. The guy that comes around the house, Calvin, lies a lot and changed the policy. I am sure that's why he won't answer calls or stop by. But I will let everyone in my neighborhood know there's going to be a problem getting paid and to be careful. Check your policy; he might change the name on it. My mom had dementia and couldn't make decisions without me, but this guy did. But I believe in God; I know He sees all. Lost my mom and don't need an insurance company that's shady. Really sad.

Kemper slow-rolls payouts of life insurance death benefits. My mom purchased a $56,000 Reliable Life whole-life insurance policy nearly 28 years ago, with a monthly premium of $168. I started the death claim after she passed away last year, and so far it has been approximately 13 weeks, including 7 weeks since the last requested documentation was submitted.

Kemper has the worst customer service; their adjusters don't return calls. Everyone is very rude! Their client ran a red light, was charged with the accident, and now they are giving me the runaround. Crystal Diaz, the adjuster assigned to my claim at Kemper, states that she cannot contact their client. It's been one week since the accident, and I'm without a car. She advises me to go through my insurance because legally they have up to 30 days to deal with the claim. My car was a brand-new 2024 Honda Accord Sport L. The person who did the estimate from Kemper was very rude too. Crystal informs me that if I can't wait, I should rent my own car and they will possibly reimburse me, or I should go through my insurance for the rental car. I have been calling and leaving her messages, but she doesn't return my calls. I left a voicemail for her supervisor but had no luck there either. I'm frustrated with this situation. This company is unacceptable.
