The Kindle line of e-readers (including the basic Kindle and the Kindle Fire) are produced and developed by Amazon.com. There are a number of ways to get in touch with Amazon regarding its Kindle products. For technical support, a variety of help resources are available online, but it's also easy to reach customer service representatives via an online form or with offline methods of contact.

Reaching Customer Service Online

  1. If you're having problems with your Kindle device, you may not even need to contact Amazon at all. Instead, start by visiting the Amazon help pages, available at https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html.[1]
    • Once you’re on the help page, click on the the box that says “Digital Services and Device Support.” Scroll down to the “Kindle E-Readers” category and click it to find information about your type of device.[2]
  2. Can't find the help you're looking for on the help pages? Use the official online help form to contact Amazon Customer Service directly. Go to https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/general-questions.html to access the form.

Keep in mind: Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Amazon’s customer support phone lines currently aren’t working. The only help option you can get from the “Contact Us” page right now is online chat with Amazon’s customer service bot. The bot will connect you with a human representative if you need further help.

  3. Click the "Fire and Kindle" button at the top of the page. Use the drop-down menus on the page to select which type of device you have and what kind of problem or question you need help with.
    • If you have registered your Kindle device and you are logged in to your Amazon account, you won't have to fill out the information about your Kindle. Instead, just click the button near the top of the page with your device on it. If you don't see your device, click "My Kindle is not shown" and fill out the form as normal.
  4. Once you finish filling out the part of the form that describes your problem, Amazon may immediately display information that has been determined to be helpful to you. You can read this help information (and watch any video that is included with it) or simply scroll past it to continue—the choice is yours.
  5. At the end of the form, you'll see 3 different contact options. Pick the one that matches the way you want to get in touch with customer service. Your choices are:
    • Email: On the next screen, you'll be asked to verify your Kindle model and your email address. You can also type in any extra important information you want customer service to see. Click "Send Email" to finish. You can also email Amazon directly at cs-reply@amazon.com.
    • Phone: You will be taken to a screen with the appropriate phone number for you to call. You may also be given the option to input your phone number and have Amazon call you.
    • Chat: A window will pop up with a space to describe your problem. When you're ready, click "Start Chat" and you'll be connected to a customer service representative who will talk to you via text chat.
  6. Certain support issues may make it so that one or more of the options above are greyed-out. For example, if Amazon Customer Service determines that a certain Kindle problem needs one-on-one help to fix, the Email option will be disabled. In these cases, just select one of the remaining options.
  7. 7
Use the help center in the Kindle app for quick assistance. Open the Kindle app on your mobile device and select the “more” menu in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. Once the menu opens, click “Help.” From there, you can either select one of the help topics on the screen or click the “Contact Us” header.
    • Currently, the only form of contact available via the app is email. Select the issue that’s the closest match for the problem you’re having, then fill out the text box with your message and click “Send E-mail.”

Reaching Customer Service via Phone

  1. If you don't have an internet connection or you'd prefer to talk to Amazon directly, call this number, which is toll-free for calls made within the U.S.
    • You'll need to answer a few computerized prompts when you call this number. However, once your product and your issue have been determined, you'll be able to speak to a human representative.

Be aware: This number, along with all of Amazon’s other customer service numbers, is currently out of service due to the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, the best way to get help with your device is to use Amazon’s customer support chat service.

  2. 2
Call 1-888-280-4331 for Amazon’s main customer support line. You can also call Amazon’s general customer support number for help. They can direct you to someone who can answer your questions about your device or Kindle service.[3]
    • This line, like Amazon’s other customer support lines, is currently down due to the coronavirus crisis. You can use it once call centers reopen.
  3. Kindle customer service representatives should be able to help you with almost any problem. However, your call is likely to be quicker and easier if you have certain useful pieces of information ready beforehand. These include:
    • The model of your Kindle.
    • An accurate description of your problem—what you've tried to do, what hasn't worked, and so on.
    • Contact information for yourself in case the problem can't be solved right away.

To talk to a real person on Kindle customer service, go to the Amazon website and sign in to your account. Navigate to the "Contact Us" page by clicking on the "Help" link at the top of the page. Select the option to contact Kindle customer service. Choose the "Phone" or "Chat" option, depending on your preference. Follow the prompts to enter your phone number or start a chat session. Once you are connected with a customer service representative, explain your issue and they should be able to assist you further. Note that wait times may vary depending on the time of day and the volume of customer inquiries, so you may need to be patient when waiting to speak with a representative.

Tips

  • If you're a journalist or a businessperson with a question about Kindle, email kindlepr@amazon.com to get in touch directly with Kindle PR rather than going through customer service.[4]
  • Another good place to find help for questions about your Kindle is the official Kindle help forum. Here, you'll be able to get answers from community members as well as Amazon support staff.
  • Streaming video sites like YouTube may also offer help. On these sites, you can search for user-submitted video guides to common errors and problems. Watching someone solve your issue is often easier than reading or listening to an expert's advice.
