Dominant Natal Chart Elements

Many astrologers consider the element of each of the planets when determining which of the elements may be more significant in a Natal Chart reading.

One method for evaluating the strength of an element in a birth chart is to assign a value of 4 to the element associated with the Sun; the Moon element is assigned a value of 3; Mercury, Venus, and Mars sign elements are assigned a value of 2 each, and Jupiter and Saturn each have a value of 1.

Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are disregarded because their element is more societal affecting large groups of individuals born during a period.

Using this approach, if as many as 8 points are concentrated in one element, it is considered a preponderance in that element. Having 5 points or more in two Elements is considered to be both (ex; “Fire and Water” type). When there is 1 point or less in an Element, is considered to be an absence.

Fire Dominant

When we have an abundance of Fire Signs in our charts, we find ourselves over flowing with enthusiasm, self-faith, and direct honesty. We radiate with a warm, vivacious energy that glows with exuberance. We need freedom to express ourselves, and put all of ourselves into everything that we do. For that reason, we become intensely assertive, active, individualistic, and self-expressive. Our energy can overpower or even exhaust the more sensitive types, but can occasionally stimulate those who are more lethargic. We value having a good time and enjoying life far more than material possessions. For this reason, we are often very generous with our time, energy, and resources.

Interestingly, people who are Fire Dominant tend to be famous for the egoism we frequently demonstrate, despite our numerous displays of generosity. We often believe in ourselves so much that we tend to overlook, and even fail to utilize, the talents and capabilities of others. That is to say, we try to do it all by ourselves and often simply forget to delegate. This can be quite the flaw in our managerial ability, but our natural leadership skills lends us to typically be at the fore front of any battle, sport, or business endeavor. We are the individualistic and independent leader who tend to live our lives on a stage, and we prefer appreciation for our accomplishments more than monetary compensation.

Earth Dominant

When we have an abundance of Earth Signs in our charts, we find ourselves to be quite dependable, cautious, and premeditive. We live our lives by a code of common sense and practicality. We are concerned with physical well-being rather than spiritual or emotional attachment. We are often quite rigid, if only for the sake of obligation, duty, and responsibility. We are highly methodical and detail-oriented. We are the type of person who is very well adjusted to this life we lead. We are the realists of the world, the organizers, builders, and planners. We are hard-workers, with the skills and attitude necessary to succeed in the business world. We often avoid unnecessary risks, and don’t gamble much. While dependability, diligence, and pragmatism are our greatest traits, we may experience lack of ideas or imagination, along with a blind adherence to rules and regulations as potential weaknesses.

Fire and Air Dominant

When our chart is predominantly Fire and Air signs, we find ourselves more idealistic, aspiring, and positive-thinking. While our intentions and motives are usually good, our approach to such things, and life in general, is usually not completely realistic. Regardless, we have the strong ability to put our ideas into action, though completing the things we embark on may be a challenge. We have a strong sense of humor, and are extremely effective with our words. However, we may neglect our emotional, material, or physical needs, as our focus is usually on the abstract. While we are full of ideas and enthusiasm, we must learn that we can not just pour all of our energy into a project, without also taking time to recover, to avoid depletion.

Fire and Water Dominant

When our chart is predominantly Fire and Water signs, we find ourselves more emotional than logical. We feel strongly, deeply, and it consumes us – like a rushing flood, or a raging fire. We express our emotions freely, and purely. Because of this, sometimes our logical process are either under-developed, or simply under-used. We are very opinionated – and find it difficult to obtain from bias. That is to say, we live subjectively rather than objectively. We are intense, prone to emotional extremes, and a deep, and often hidden, sensitivity to other’s opinions of us. We thrive under pressure – and can get restless when we aren’t being challenged. We are often at home in the spot light, and do well in leadership positions – so long as we don’t let our fear of being disliked inhibit us.

Fire Absence

Earth Absence

When our chart lacks Earth Signs, it would be more fitting to say we are “up in space” rather than “down to Earth.” We exist on a level that is often rather different from those around us; we live within our emotions, rather than our thoughts. We may be overly consumed by our feelings towards the past or the future; and while we can sometimes live “in the moment,” handling practical and mundane issues may be especially difficult. It may be difficult for us to get organized or follow through on tasks; all of which may lead us to avoid responsibilities. We sometimes compensate for this though an obsession with trying to get or remain organized. Material possessions and money are abstract thoughts to us; we find it hard to value them, beyond the necessity the world forces them to be. We aren’t overly concerned with possessions or material gain; though we may be quite fervent and impulsive in our spending habits.

Air Absence

Water Absence

When our chart lacks Water Signs, we tend to find it difficult to fully understand the deeper meanings of the events around us. We easily gather data about the events and circumstances that surround us, but struggle to understand what it all means. Compared to others, we may appear to lack emotional intensity. That doesn’t mean we don’t have feelings, they just aren’t as easily engaged or run quite as deeply as others may anticipate. We easily bounce back from emotional pain, and disappointments don’t keep us down for long. While we enjoy socializing with other people, we aren’t quite as prone to forming close emotional bonds with other people. We may often feel discomforted or even smothered by strong emotional demands from other people. We may seem quite callous, cold, and detached because of this. Our intuition isn’t as sharp as those with more Water Influenced charts, but this doesn’t bother us; we trust logic over intuition anyway.
