Blackboard Original

Blackboard is MATC's Learning Management System. Students use Blackboard to access online course content. Instructors who teach blended courses with content delivered both online and face-to-face, and instructors who teach face-to-face, will also utilize Bb for the course syllabus and other resources.

In Summer 2023, we will be updating to Blackboard Ultra.

How Do I Access Blackboard?

When you become a student at MATC, you will receive information about your MATC network account, which you will use to log into college email, Blackboard, and other applications. Your Blackboard access will typically begin at least 1 week prior to the start of your courses.

You may access Blackboard through the following ways:

Password Management & Expiration

Your MATC Network account's password will expire and must be changed every 180 days. You will receive an email at your MATC Gmail account warning you at 15 days, 5 days, and 3 days. You may use the online Password Manager to change your password.

Login Session Duration

When you log into Blackboard Learn, a login session is created. The login session is what allows you to access courses uninterrupted. Your login session will continue to be active as long as you are actively accessing content, tools, and assessments.  If you are inactive for over three (3) hours, a Session-Timeout Warning will appear. Once the warning appears, you will have six (6) minutes before the system logs you out of Blackboard. If you close the warning message before the session ends, the session will extend for three (3) more hours.

How Do I Fix a Blackboard Login Problem?

If you have trouble logging into Blackboard, see the Blackboard Login Help page for assistance. If you cannot log into Blackboard, call the Help Desk at (414) 297-6541. Only the Help Desk can resolve login problems!

How Do I Navigate and Use Blackboard?

If you are new to online learning, we strongly recommend viewing the Online Readiness Module (log in with your MATC network account) or attending a Student Blackboard Orientation Webinar

Customizing Your Blackboard Profile

Adding a Personal Avatar Image

An avatar is an image that you can use to represent yourself in Blackboard. When you are logged into Blackboard, click on your name in the base menu to view your Blackboard Profile page. Click on the placeholder image at the top of the page to add an avatar image. The avatar that you choose should be reflective of the professional image you want to convey to others. It will be visible wherever you are active in Blackboard, such as in course discussions, journals, blogs, groups, and the grade center.

Pronouns and Name Pronunciation Tips

You may edit your Blackboard profile to add your preferred personal pronouns and name pronunciation tips. This information is available wherever your Blackboard profile avatar appears in Blackboard. Simply click on a user’s avatar icon to view their information.

Customizing Blackboard Notifications

When editing your Blackboard profile, you may choose what automated notifications you want to receive on the Activity Stream page and at your MATC email address.
