Steps to Unlock a McAfee Encrypted Computer
Disk encryption will lock out the system after five unsuccessful attempts to log in to a McAfee encrypted computer. When this occurs, the user will see an image similar to the one below.
Steps:
For a video demonstration of this process from both the Client and Administrator perspective please go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgNizkB5uJc&feature=youtu.be
1. Your first step should be to log into the McAfee ePO console (https://146.163.252.219:8443)
2. The login protocol is campus\username, password (once there you will want to go to System, Data Protection, Encryption Recovery)
3. Direct the user to select the Options button to go to the next screen to begin the process of unlocking their system. From here they will want to select Recovery
4. They will then be given the option of Administrator or Self Recovery. Have the user select the Administrator Recovery option and click OK.
5. The next screen the user will be shown displays an alpha numeric code with the phonetic pronunciation below it (no screen shot available). Have them read you the phonetic code to avoid mistakes. You will input this code into the Challenge Code field on the Encryption Recovery page.
6. Once you are done select Next and the recovery code is displayed in two parts. The phonetic pronunciation is provided and should be used to reduce the chance of a mistake. Give the user the first part and have them select Enter. Then give them the second part of the code (all fields will not be filled in) and have them select Enter again followed by Finish.
At this point the system will unlock and they should be able to log in with the correct password. If they do not know their password they will have to have it reset (and have their system connected to the University network) before they can log in.
