The City of Melbourne's Melbourne Library Service has six branches across the municipality, located in the central city, Carlton, Docklands, East Melbourne, North Melbourne and Southbank
The libraries offer a wide range of facilities, services and resources, including books, CDs, DVDs, magazines, journals and newspapers in a range of languages as well as electronic publications.

Library membership is free and open to anyone.
Melbourne Library Services
We offer free delivery of library material to people living in the City of Melbourne who are unable to visit their local library and also visit nursing homes and other institutions.
Local History Resources
Collections and history of the library include online Local History Databases, History of Your House, Publications for Sale, Local Historical Societies and Genealogical Links.

Located near bustling Degraves Street and co-located with the Centre for Adult Education, City Library is Victoria's busiest public lending library.

Train: all lines to Flinders Street Station
Tram: routes along Flinders Street (stops 4 or 5), Swanston Street (stops 11 or 13) or Elizabeth Street (stops 1 or 2)
East Melbourne Library

East Melbourne Library will close from Tuesday 4 April to Tuesday 13 June 2017 while a range of refurbishment works take place.
Stylish and inviting, East Melbourne Library is Australia's most ecologically sustainable public library. The library runs a range of environmental programs and is home to the City of Melbourne's Environment Resource Centre, where you can find a range of environmental books, magazines, videos, DVDs, software programs and government information including flyers and newsletters.

North Melbourne Library

One of the longest established libraries in Victoria, North Melbourne Library was built in 1882 and opened in 1884 as a Mechanics Institute and Library. Since 1905 it has provided a free public lending service to the City of Melbourne.

Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre

The Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre is a modern, welcoming space where all members of the community can read, connect, learn and create. The centre is home to a library, learning and training rooms with a computer lab, recording studio, meeting rooms, community activity spaces and a cafe.

Library at The Dock

Located on the waterfront, The Library at The Dock is a next-generation library and community hub. As well as the library collection, there is a recording studio, creative editing suites, community spaces and a large performance venue. A gallery and exhibition space celebrates Docklands' heritage.

Southbank Library is located at Boyd Community Hub, where you will also find artist studios, maternal and child health services, meeting rooms, outdoor spaces and KereKere cafe.
