Mercury Insurance Review
Mercury Insurance is rated 3.7/5 by WalletHub’s editors, based on customer reviews, sample insurance quotes and ratings from organizations such as the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and J.D. Power. Mercury reviews from consumers tend to praise its customer service but complain about its claims servicing process. Plus, the company’s NAIC rating is 2.51, which means Mercury has received more complaints than the average car insurance provider, adjusted for size. Mercury Insurance is pretty affordable compared to most of its competitors, as the company ranks in the 2nd cheapest quartile of insurers in WalletHub’s cost comparison. Like many of its industry peers, Mercury also offers discounts for bundling multiple insurance policies with the company, but it doesn’t offer quite as many extra coverage options as some of its competitors.
Mercury Home Insurance Review Highlights
Mercury offers homeowners, renters and condo insurance. There’s also additional landlord insurance and coverage options for repairing home systems, fixing damaged service lines, protecting your identity and protecting your cyber systems.
Mercury Home Insurance Coverage
A homeowners policy from Mercury covers your home and personal property from covered losses, due to things such as fire, lightning, storm damage, theft and more. Mercury homeowners insurance also has liability coverage for injury and property damage to others while on your property, and it will cover any additional living expenses in case you can’t stay at home while repairs are being made. There’s even a supplemental coverage option to protect luxury items and valuables, like fine art, antiques and jewelry, that aren’t normally covered.
Mercury Renters Insurance
In addition to protection for your (and your guest’s) personal property, renters insurance from Mercury offers medical coverage in case someone gets injured while on a property you rent. Mercury renters insurance policies also include worker’s compensation coverage in case a part-time employee, like a nanny or repairman, gets hurt while on the job at your rental property.
Mercury Condo Insurance
Similarly, with a condo policy from Mercury, the company will cover improvements you’ve made to the unit and any additional liability in case your condo association charges you for repairs made to common areas because of a covered loss.
All in all, these are solid coverage options at a reasonable price point.
Bottom Line: Is Mercury Insurance a Good Company?
Mercury is a pretty good insurance company. Mercury’s auto insurance policies are available to drivers of all types, including people with little driving experience or less-than-perfect driving records. The company also offers 24/7 roadside assistance and an extra mechanical protection coverage option. In addition to auto insurance policies, Mercury offers homeowners, business, and umbrella insurance policies.
However, WalletHub’s editors give Mercury Insurance a rating of just 3.7/5, in part because of its reputation for raising rates unexpectedly and slow claims payouts.
