New Graduate Student Checklist

This checklist will guide you as you prepare to begin your graduate degree at FAU. If you have any questions,<br />

please contact the <strong>Graduate</strong> College at 561-297-3624 or graduatecollege@fau.edu.<br />

Carefully review your acceptance letter. Verify that the information (name, major and entry term) on the letter is correct.<br />

Apply for Financial Aid (if needed) by completing the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The FAU priority deadline is<br />

March 1. Financial aid materials received by March 1 will receive priority consideration. If you have questions<br />

regarding financial aid, contact the Office of <strong>Student</strong> Financial Aid at<br />

561-297-3530.<br />

Log into your MyFAU (http://myfau.fau.edu) account with your net ID (click “What is my FAUNet ID”<br />

and follow the prompts) and password, (the three letters "fau" and your birthdate: fauMMDDYY) to view holds, register<br />

for courses, pay tuition, view your FAU email account and accept your financial aid award (under the “Money Matters”<br />

tab). To learn more about MyFAU, visit http://www.fau.edu/oit/myfau/.<br />

• If you are unable to access your account, call the Help Desk at 561-297-3999.<br />

Complete your FAU Immunization Form and submit the form to the Immunization Office. Registration is<br />

restricted until immunization requirements are met. The Immunization form is available at<br />

www.fau.edu/shs/additional/immunization.php. If you have any questions, contact the Immunization Office at<br />

561-297-0048.<br />

View the academic calendar at www.fau.edu/registrar/acadcal.php. Make note of registration dates, the first day<br />

of class and tuition/fee deadlines.<br />

Contact your academic program for specific advising and registration information. Visit the <strong>Graduate</strong><br />

College website to locate your advisor’s contact information at www.fau.edu/graduate/applyonline/degrees<br />

or contact your department.<br />

Residency for Tuition Purposes: Additional documentation may be required to determine if you qualify for in -<br />

state tuition under state law. Check Residency at MyFAU: Log in and go to FAU Self-Service, under <strong>Student</strong><br />

Services click on <strong>Student</strong> Records and go to View <strong>Student</strong> Information, your status is listed next to<br />

Residence. For Residency Instructions visit www.fau.edu/graduate/applyonline/residency/index.php.<br />

Obtain an FAU Parking Permit. Vehicle registration is available online at www.fau.edu/parking. <strong>Student</strong>s are eligible to<br />

register for a parking permit 24 hours after they have registered for courses.<br />

Obtain your FAU <strong>Student</strong> ID card. Visit an OWL Card center on campus to obtain your Owl Card.<br />

You must be registered for at least one course before applying for an OWL Card. More information is available at<br />

www.fau.edu/business-services/owlcard/.<br />

Register for <strong>New</strong> <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Orientation at www.fau.edu/graduate/currentstudents/orientation.<br />

View tuition and fee deadlines on the Academic Calendar at www.fau.edu/registrar/acadcal.php.
