Dont buy your domains here

Avoid the trap of buying cheap/ (or free) domains from Names.co.uk.

I have been with them for years and initially found their procing and service to be fair. Not any longer. In less than a year the renewal Fee has increased by over 35%. Originally £14.99,, then £19.99, then £24.99, then in Nov 2023 it went to £33.99. Now, today March 2024 its £40.

Yet new purchases for the same service are only £33.

I have raised this with customer service and they see nothing wrong with chargibg loyal customers more than nee customers. What about cistomer retention.

With such practices I shall be moving my service away from namesco immediately.

Hi Gavin,

Thank you for your feedback.

I have sent a request for more information, maybe some order details that we can go from so that I can look into this for you and look to assist further.

Kind Regards

Avoid like the plague

Avoid like the plague. Your initial transaction with these guys may be cheap but they'll absolutely burn you later down the line. They informed me they'd increased their prices - all of which seem to have hit my spam folder.

My automatic renewal comes in at over x8 more expensive than I get over at namescheap for the exact same service. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

This company irresponsible and will…

This company irresponsible and will take your money.

I wasted my money without getting neither my domain nor a refund
I had very frustrating experience, they charged me 4 times with neither getting my domain nor getting a refund, everytime they say that the order was cancelled without any reason or refund, they don't have chat support and the phone support does not work.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever! I've been unable to login to my control panel for days. I've tried to reach them but they are impossible to reach. No support email, no support live chat, whenever I tried calling them they keep my call to infinite wait which never ends.

Absolute conmen

Absolute conmen - I hit the limit for inbox storage and the only website upgrade option they give me is £800+ per year.
Over the phone they can cut it down a bit but still a cynical capture ploy - they know switching cost is high so want to bleed you as much as possible.
Even worse - appears they are misrepresenting my mailbox usage to get me to buy an overpriced upgrade.

Domain Transfers - A British company

I was looking for someone to register a domain name that handled a .uk.com, seems that it's not as easy as you would think!

Names.co.uk came to view, so I called them, and was delighted with the service, knowledge and mainly, attitude, from all that I spoke to; initially Tom, then Kes, Lauren, Nat and finally Steph B.

This was to me having to call back and be directed to the correct Depts., coz I pressed the wrong buttons-duh!

They all sorted me out, a very helpful and cheerful bunch, especially Tom, who was the guy that persuaded me that I'd found the right people, and Steph B who handled all my questions and the final transfer work, very promptly. Understanding my needs and giving me confidence in Namesco.co.uk

Delighted to find a British company, and based in one of my favourite cities, Worcester.

So far, so very good, and is making me look into all the companies capabilities, as looks like some good services and offers!

Cheers and thank you again for the good and prompt work, I needed that!

Cheers.

Feel like I was conned

It was very cheap to register domains one year ago but the renewal price for the domains one year later was 2 to 3 times the price of other providers. I therefore decided to move to another provider but I then had to pay £12 per domain to transfer them away.

Hard not to feel like I was conned. Won't use their services again. Not a good strategy to get people's long term business.

Do yourself a favour and don't sign up in the first place

Disappointing process to renew annual…

Disappointing process to renew annual subscription. Changed from an outdated card but payment did not go through and was threatened with suspension. Have now sorted while away at some expense and frustration.

£10 quid to move my domain away!

£10 quid to move my domain away!
the renewal quote from this registrar was £48 more than an alternative (for 2 years).
Therefore I want to move away - but the domain is locked "for my safety" - but I need to pay £10 + tax to unlock it for 60 days!!!
I won't consider going back to these guys.

Been a solid provider for years

Been a solid provider for years, but now absolutely rake you for being a loyal customer. Have transferred elsewhere with the same services, and their 3 year bill will fund 14 years at the new provider.

Terrible customer support

Terrible customer support. Truly the worst I've experienced in the business. Trying to get a straight answer from them is impossible, they will lie to cover up their own errors. Their first-line team don't know what they're talking about, and it takes forever to get through to someone in third line who knows more.

For example I paid for a 2-year SSL subscription and they failed to act to properly refresh it after the first 12 months, such that it expired; they told me that it's my fault for renewing (the year before) too many days in advance.

They'll give me instructions that are impossible to follow, such as to make changes to my A-records in DNS even though they manage the DNS and I have no access to it.

Web hosting is OK. Good, actually, but this does not make up for terrible customer support.

Email hosting is unreliable. Constantly seeing outbound emails blocked (by their own internal servers) due to perceived spam, or due to full disks/quota, etc. When I ask for support, they can't even trace the messages in question.

Support ticking system is dreadful. Can't add attachments except when first raising a ticket, can't see attachments afterwards, they close on ticket and reopen another for the same problem.

Administration portal is not very good in particular the file manager.

No reply for help

New customer to Names.co.uk. Have submitted a request with help in importing .UK domains, as having issues. Still waiting for a reply to a support ticket 4 + days after asking.
Awful service - I should have stuck to 123-Reg and GoDaddy!

Service leaves a lot to be desired over the long term

My experience is the longer I was a customer, the worse service I got in terms of out of date software. I am currently on a database package that is apparently so old Microsoft no longer support it and no longer issue security patches. Some of the auto renewals for various domains I have appear to have been for 5 year periods as the default option. Don't really feel in control of the quality of my service package so have decided to go with another provider
