Offer Description

Rector Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences

announces an open competition for the POST DOC position of assistant professor

in a group of research staff at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics

Description of tasks in the position:

  • leading development of data assimilation studies in developing tomography assimilation operator;
  • processing of real data from ground-based and space-based GNSS missions in tomography software;
  • supporting development and validation of integrated ground-based and space-based tomography model work package;
  • co-supervising PhD student.

Description of the project:

The Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformatics (IGG UPWr) announces an open PostDoc position starting on 1st of October 2023 that will be funded by the Polish National Science Center in the framework of the project “3D integrated sensing of troposphere using ground and space-based GNSS observations” (project number: 2020/37/B/ST10/03703

This project is an ambitious step forward in the use of navigation signals in atmosphere research. GNSS tomography with dense (3-5km) ground-based network and space-based observations, that traverse the troposphere in the horizontal direction, will make this technology suitable for application in high-density weather predictions. Within this project together with partners Wroclaw University, ETH Zurich, TU Wien and Spire Global we will tackle the following research questions:

  1. Can the severe or local scale (e.g. Urban Heat Island, UHI) weather features be predicted more accurately if novel GNSS information is assimilated in the NWP?
  2. How to integrate space-based and ground-based observations in the functional and stochastic model?
  3. How to parameterize the tomography model using regular or irregular grid?

If you want to join us in this exciting research respond to this offer and contact prof. Witold Rohm (witold.rohm@upwr.edu.pl) . We offer working opportunities in the inspiring, young, international team of the SPace And Close Earth Observation Sciences (SpaceOS) Working Group (see https://spaceos.igig.upwr.edu.pl/ ). More information about the project can be found at the website: https://ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/listy-rankingowe/2020-03-16pfoa/streszczenia/478957-en.pdf

Applications and the selection procedure will follow the regulations from Annex to NCN Council Resolution No 90/2019 of 12 September 2019 amending the Regulations on awarding funding for research tasks funded by the National Science Centre as regards research projects: https://ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2019/uchwala90_2019-zal1_ang.pdf

The Wroclaw University of Environmental and Life Sciences is an equal opportunity employer. Applications from women for the PostDoc position are strongly encouraged.
