It sure isn't about romance, but PickupHockey.com is providing pickup lines to hockey lovers all across North America.

Designed by Vancouver based Internet development company, Netgenetix Media, the site's main purpose helping hockey players find other hockey players for recreational and pickup hockey games in their region.

Users can post and find games, arenas, leagues and even tournaments all across North America.

"There was just an incredible need," portal founder Leigh Byblow said. "There existed a massive vacuum in the space that needed to be filled. I've been playing hockey my whole life and I know just how frustrating it was finding games in your area and other players your own age and skill level to play with. With the advent of the internet there is no need for us to continue like that. PickUpHockey.com solves that frustration."

In its first two weeks of operation, PickUpHockey.com had more than 400 members. After six weeks that number has swelled to nearly 1000 members across North America. The split is about 50/50, Canadian and American citizens.

The site is built around an on-line database that allows individuals to submit and search for players, goalies, referees, timekeepers, games, leagues, arenas and tournaments.

Other hockey people then search the SQL database to find appropriate individuals to fill spots at their games etc. If there are profiles that match the criteria searched upon, a list of matches will be displayed. Users then use web site's private email messaging system or use the appropriate phone number displayed in their profile to make contact.

The site is sponsored by international hockey equipment manufacturer ITECH Sports Products Inc.

By the end of the winter PickUpHockey.com will include a league stats manager, a printable rule book that will house every regulation from various North American hockey associations, on-line hockey pools and wireless accessibility for members to search the database by cell phone or wireless device.
