Instructions

Why Laptop Test?

A laptop test is required to ensure that the appliance has the required connectivity with QualysGuard as we cannot log in to the appliance. You can use the same cable for the physical environment or a virtual machine from the same subnet to verify the connectivity, by browsing a website from the machine. For more information on Laptop test, see Laptop Test process video.

Does your Scanner Appliance displays failed connectivity?
The URLs required for the scanner to connect to Qualys Secure Operations Center for your Qualys Platform can be found in VMDR/VM > Help > About section. Below are sample screenshots from US Platform 1:

Note: Connectivity to each of the above URLs is required for the scanner to be able to function completely.

How to test Connectivity?

  1. For Physical Appliances, remove the network cable to the scanner and connect the same to the laptop.
  2. For a virtual appliance, configure a host within the Virtualization platform. Network configuration (IP address, gateway, DNS server, etc.) for laptop or virtual host should be the same as that of the scanner appliance.
  3. If the connection to Qualys Cloud Platform must pass through a proxy server, configure a web browser with proxy information.
  4. Open a browser and try to log into your Qualys account. You will see the Qualys login page after a successful connection is made to the Qualys Cloud Platform.
  5. Take screenshots showing each URL browsed and its output, and send the screenshots to Qualys Support.

Test DNS Name Resolution

DNS name resolution can be tested from any machine connected to the same network as the Scanner Appliance. If DNS name resolution is working properly, server information is returned which includes the server name and IP address.

Note: nslookup” is not available on all systems.
