Four easy steps for a great start at Seneca 

To guarantee we keep a seat for you at Seneca please review the four steps below and read the information in this 

Acceptance Guide carefully. 

1. Confirm at ontariocolleges.ca 

You must inform ontariocolleges.ca that you are accepting our offer. Your username and password will be required 

to log in to your online ontariocolleges.ca account. You will be able to review your offers of admission and confirm 

the program you want. For further instructions, please refer to the confirmation page included with your offer of 

admission package. 

2. Pay your fees by the due date. 

Do not to let this date go by without making a payment or without making arrangements for a reduced payment! 

If you fail to make a payment by the due date your seat may be offered to the first applicant on the waiting list. 

3. Book your Skills Assessment via: 

The web https://www.senecac.on.ca/testbooking/assessment/ or call 416-491-5050, ext. 6868. 

As a new Seneca student, you are required to 

write the Skills Assessment, even if you have 

already written a pre-admissions test. The Skills 

Assessment is a tool to determine your academic 

placement in English and/or Mathematics. We 

need the results of this assessment to prepare 

your timetable. Students accepted into a graduate 

certificate program do not need to complete this 

assessment. While there is no assessment fee, if 

you do not write the assessment on time, you may 

incur a $30.00 late fee. 

If you require academic accommodations related 

to a disability, please see a Disability Counsellor 

prior to arranging the Skills Assessment test.

Please review the Offer of Admission page for any 

conditions. If you have not met all the admission 

requirements because you are still in school or 

completing a course required for admission, you 

have until the first day of classes to complete your 

studies and meet the conditions.

WHAT IS INVOLVED? 

1. A Short Essay (handwritten) 

To measure your ability to write a formal essay, you will have 45 minutes to write a 300-word essay based on a short article. 

2. Computerized Placement Tests 

Reading Comprehension 

You will read different pieces of writing and answer questions based on the content to measure your comprehension. 

Arithmetic* 

This test involves operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents and problem solving. 

Elementary Algebra* 

This tests your understanding of integers and rational numbers, algebraic expressions, equations, inequalities and word problems. 

* (not for Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology students) 

3. For Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering Technology students only - Canadian Achievement Test 3rd Edition - CAT3 - Mathematics. 

This multiple choice test will take 40 minutes.

There are four Seneca College campus bookstores located at King, 

Markham, Newnham and Seneca@York campuses. As an added 

convenience, you can order textbooks and supplies online through

Tuition 

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT TUITION FEES? 

The following information applies to day students registered in full-time 

programs. 

Expiry Dates 

Be sure you do not miss your payment deadline without contacting 

us. This applies to all new students including those who may 

be applying or waiting for Ontario Student Assistance (OSAP). 

If you miss the payment date and do not contact us, we may offer 

your seat to the first person on the waiting list. 

The expiry date is the last possible date for your tuition payment 

to arrive at Seneca College in order to guarantee your 

seat in the program. 

• For programs that start in January 2011, the Tuition Fee Due 

Date is October 6, 2010. 

• For programs that start in May 2011, the Tuition Fee Due Date is 

March 11, 2011. 

For any starting date, you may be accepted after the payment 

date in which case your due date will be stated on your fee 

invoice. This date is usually within two weeks or less of receiving 

the offer of admission. 

WAITING FOR OSAP? 

Applicants who have difficulty paying the full semester’s fees and 

who qualify for the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) 

may arrange a partial payment of $400 while waiting for their 

student loans. This payment must be received before the Tuition 

Fee Due Date. If you choose this option, you must contact the 

Admissions Office well BEFORE the fee payment expiry date and 

sign a Fee Payment Promissory Note Contract with Seneca. This 

form is available at the Admissions Office and is also available at 

www.senecac.on.ca/registrar/documents/Promissory.pdf. A $65 

late payment charge is added to your account for this service. Be 

sure not to wait until the last minute to make these arrangements. 

ACCIDENT & SICKNESS INSURANCE AND DENTAL 

INSURANCE

WHAT HAPPENS IF I FAIL OR DROP ONE OF MY HIGH 

SCHOOL SUBJECTS? 

If you fail or drop a subject, do not obtain your Secondary School 

Graduation Diploma or do not complete your upgrading program 

to the Grade 12 level, you must contact the Admissions Office 

immediately at admissions@senecac.on.ca or 416-491-5050, ext. 

2800. There are options available which may enable you to qualify 

for admission. If you do not let us know before your program 

starts, you may forfeit your seat in the program. 

WHAT IF I DECIDE TO WITHDRAW FROM SENECA 

AFTER PAYING MY TUITION FEES? 

Withdrawing from the College impacts your eligibility for a refund 

and your academic standing. 

In order to officially withdraw, you must notify the Registration 

Office in writing of your intent to withdraw. This notification can be 

submitted by registered mail, by fax at 416-493-3958 or in person 

within the published timelines. Not attending class and/or telling 

the professor of your intention to withdraw are not acceptable 

notifications. The date your letter is received in the Registration 

Office will be the official date of your withdrawal. 

FOR FULL - TIME OR REDUCED COURSE-LOAD DAY 

STUDENTS WITHDRAWING FROM A PROGRAM 

Academic Standing 

• Withdrawal from the College before the tenth day of scheduled 

classes will delete any reference in the student academic 

record. 

• Withdrawal from the College after the tenth day of scheduled 

classes and before the Final Withdrawal Date as published by 

the Registrar will result in the grade designation “***“ on the 

student academic record and no tuition fees will be refunded. 

• Withdrawal from the College without written notification to the 

Registration Office by the Final Withdrawal Date or withdrawal 

after the Final Withdrawal Date will result in the appropriate 

grade designation “DNA” or “F” and no tuition fees will be 

refunded. 

Note: See Academic Policy Section 10.2 for timelines related to “Discontinuing 

a Subject”. 

Tuition Fees Refund* 

In accordance with the policy of the Ministry of Training, Colleges 

and Universities, if official notification of withdrawal is submitted 

by the tenth day of classes: 

• Full tuition fees, less $100.00 will be refunded. 

• Fees collected in advance for future semesters will be refunded 

in full. 

 

* International Students have a separate fee and refund policy.

PAYMENT OPTIONS* 

Payment Option A: Full semester one fees should be paid before 

the due date on your invoice. Students paying full fees by the due 

date will not incur a late payment charge. 

Payment Option B: If you are experiencing financial difficulty 

and have applied for a student loan (OSAP), a partial payment of 

$400.00 is required by the due date on your invoice. However, if 

you choose Payment Option "B", please consider the following: 

1. A $65.00 late fee payment charge will automatically be applied 

to your student account. 

2. A Promissory Note form must be submitted with payment. 

This form indicates when the balance of fees are to be paid, 

normally within two weeks of the start of classes; however, 

once notified of your OSAP loan, it should be negotiated immediately 

and not delayed until the balance of fees are due. 

The Promissory Note may be completed when making an 

in-person payment or may be downloaded, printed and mailed 

with your payment:

* Payment Options pertain to domestic students only. International 

students must pay full fees by the fees due date. 

Refunds: Once a tuition payment has been made, official withdrawals 

that are submitted to the Registration Office by the tenth 

day of classes qualify for a refund of fees paid less $100.00. 

(Note: this does not apply to International Students. International 

students have a separate fee refund policy.)

HOW CAN I PAY MY FEES? 

Pay at a Canadian Financial Institution 

Take your Student Account Invoice, along with your fee payment, 

to your financial institution. It can take up to 5 business days to 

have your payment reach the College so make sure you make your 

payment at least 5 days before the fees due date on the invoice. If 

you are required to show your receipt in the future, have the front 

of your invoice stamped by the teller or attach the transaction slip 

to your invoice. 

Pay by Credit Card via Mail or Fax 

On the tear-off portion of your Student Account Invoice, clearly 

write your credit card number and expiry date, then mail it back to 

us in the pre-addressed envelope. Alternatively, you may prefer to 

send this information to the fax number provided. 

Pay Using Telephone or PC Banking 

Three easy steps will allow you to make your fee payments using 

this option. Here's how: 

• Set Seneca up on your list of ‘payees’ with your financial 

institution. 

• Your 9 digit student ID number will act as your account number 

• Specify your payment amount 

Your fee payment will then be forwarded to us for processing, and 

applied to your student account. It can take up to 5 business days 

to have your payment reach the College. 

Pay by Telephone Using Your Credit Card 

Call us at 416-491-5050, extension 2800. Be ready to provide your 

name, student number, program of study and your credit card 

number and expiry date to one of our Admissions Advisors. We 

will process your fee payment over the telephone. Please expect 

our phone lines to be busy. We accept payment by Visa, Master- 

Card, and American Express. 

Pay in Person at the Registration Office 

Go to any campus Registration Office to make your payment in 

person. Just bring your Student Account Invoice along with your 

payment. Valid in-person payment methods are: 

• Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit card 

• Interac Direct Payment 

• Certified Cheque made payable to Seneca College 

• Money order made payable to Seneca College 

• Cash 

Pay by Certified Cheque or Money Order via Mail 

Using the pre-addressed cashier’s envelope in the acceptance 

package, mail in the tear-off section of the invoice with a certified 

cheque or money order. Please make it payable to Seneca College. 

Payment must reach the Admissions Office by the due date on 

your invoice, so mail your payment at least 3 business days ahead 

of time. Don’t forget to put postage on the envelope. 

Please note that we cannot accept personal cheques.

STUDENT LOANS AND FINANCIAL AID 

Registered students who are Canadian citizens, protected persons or have permanent resident status 

may apply for financial assistance through the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). If eligible, 

students receive assistance through the Canada Student Loan and/or Ontario Student Loan plan. 

Check the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website at www.edu.gov.on.ca for updates on changes to the Ontario Student Assistance 

Program for 2010/2011. You should apply for financial assistance as soon as you have confirmed acceptance to a program. You can apply for OSAP 

at no cost via the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website at osap.gov.on.ca. Paper applications can be printed directly from the 

website at osap.gov.on.ca. Your completed application must be submitted along with your $10.00 fee (cheque or money order payable to Minister 

of Finance) to the Financial Aid Office at the campus you will be attending: Newnham, Seneca@York, King or Markham. OSAP also provides assistance 

to eligible students through the following programs: 

• Ontario Special Bursary: for students studying on a part-time basis 

• Child Care Bursary: to assist with child care costs for students who have more than 3 children

If your expenses are greater than your 

income, make a plan to cover the gap. Consider

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES & AWARDS 

Entrance Scholarships: 

CRITERIA The Board of Governors’ Entrance 

Scholarships are available to Canadian 

citizens, permanent residents and protected 

persons entering Seneca College 

directly from high school. Applicants must 

be registered in a full-time post-secondary 

program in the Fall semester. This award is 

not available to students in the Winter or 

Summer semester. 

SELECTION Will be made by the College 

Awards Committee and based primarily on 

high academic standing in the applicant’s 

Grade 12 subjects in high school. The 

student’s highest marks in four academic 

subjects will be used*. Where candidates 

are of equal academic standing, factors such 

as extra-curricular activities, community 

involvement and supporting documents are 

used in the selection process.

Tuition Assistance Entrance Bursaries: The 

College offers more than 500 tuition assistance 

bursaries of up to $2,000 to students 

entering their first year. To apply for this 

bursary, you must be an Ontario resident 

and demonstrate financial need. Information

Seneca College invites all Aboriginal students to contact the First Peoples @ Seneca office for specialized 

services. These services include funding assistance, Elder programs, cultural events, speaker series, Aboriginal 

specific scholarships and awards, and cultural counselling. First Peoples @ Seneca can also make connections to 

community partners and other college departments. All students of the college, whether Aboriginal or not, are

CAREER SERVICES AT SENECA 

Career Services provides a full range of job search and employment 

services and resources for all Seneca students seeking full-time, 

part-time and seasonal employment opportunities. Career Services 

hosts employment-related events and workshops, including job fairs, 

employer information sessions and on-sight visits from employers. 

Career co-ordinators offer individual assistance to students in their 

graduating semester. As well, drop by the Career Services Centre 

at your campus to take advantage of our resume critiquing services

COUNSELLING AND DISABILITY SERVICES 

Seneca’s qualified, professional counsellors help students deal with 

everything from career planning and educational direction to personal

impairment, Counselling and Disability Services has qualified

FITNESS CENTRE 

Newnham Campus - Students, staff and community members are 

provided with the finest in fitness programming. Members can use the 

centre six days per week and take advantage of the strength and circuit 

training equipment, treadmills, stairmasters, recumbent and upright 

bikes, rowers, elliptical crosstrainers and free weights. Regularly scheduled 

fitness classes come with your membership. Fitness evaluations 

by our certified staff and individualized fitness programs are offered as

OneCard Services 

The multi-functional Seneca OneCard is your Photo ID card as well as your library 

card. Your initial card is covered by the Student Services Fee and can be used as a 

payment card once money has been deposited to pay for photocopies and printing 

services. Your Seneca OneCard can also be used to reserve equipment at the Sports 

Centre. When you pick up your card you will be given information about accessing 

your e-mail and the Internet. 

The Seneca OneCard is for all new full-time students and staff and to obtain this card you must produce a valid photo ID. This card is not 

available to part-time students. Returning students continue to use the same card. If you have changed programs, another faculty or if your 

card has expired, you can update your card at the OneCard office. There is a $10.00 fee plus taxes to replace your lost or stolen card. 

The Newnham OneCard office has a student print shop, which offers printing services to students. Students have access to computers 

that can be used to send files to the colour and the B&W printers.

Compete, participate, join in, get in shape, meet new people, and have a good time. Athletics and Recreation provides students with all 

this and more. 

Seneca students are fortunate to have some of the best and most diverse athletic facilities available. From the gymnasium, the arena 

and the ball diamond to the soccer pitch, tennis, beach volleyball and outdoor basketball, Seneca has the facilities for just about any sport 

or activity. 

Campus Recreation offers daily activities such as open gym time (basketball, badminton, table tennis, volleyball), pleasure skating and 

shinny hockey. If you don’t have equipment, you can borrow skates, balls, racquets and more just by showing your Seneca OneCard.
