Education roundup: Stark State College sets dietary information night

JACKSON TWP. – Stark State College plans a dietary information night for anyone interested in making a career of helping others make nutritious choices. The public event will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Room M100 of the Business and Entrepreneurial Center at 6200 Frank Ave. NW. Face-to-face conversations will help students define their interests, know all the options and get answers to their questions. 

The dietary manager certificate is a quick credential into the job market, while a dietetic technician associate degree means more patient/client-facing interaction and a dietetic technician degree is a stepping stone to becoming a registered dietitian.

UMU students to show
engineering prototypes 

ALLIANCE – University of Mount Union students will showcase their engineering projects at the University of Mount Union’s third annual Engineering and Entrepreneurship Design Expo from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Oak Hall on Mount Union’s campus. The expo is free and open to the public.

The event features poster presentations from the senior engineering capstone projects including projects in biomedical, civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering. Multidisciplinary student design teams will also present on their product design and development projects. 

Also featured during the event will be the students who participated in the international engineering experience, who traveled to Nigeria over spring break. Additionally, new toy and yard game prototypes, which were created by interdisciplinary groups of engineering and entrepreneurship students, will be demonstrated. 

Malone launches accelerated
program in psychology, counseling    

CANTON – Malone University is launching an academic program that will allow students to earn both a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling in an accelerated time frame. The program is designed for students who are interested in the field of psychology and provides a pathway for students to obtain eligibility for licensure as a clinical mental health counselor or professional school counselor.

Those who complete the accelerated psychology-to-counseling program will earn a bachelor of arts degree in psychology or applied psychology and a master of arts degree in clinical mental health counseling or school counseling. Students will complete 12 graduate credit hours while completing their bachelor’s degree and those credits will be counted toward the master’s degree. To enable the program to be completed in an accelerated time frame, classes will be offered in both the hybrid and fully online delivery formats.    

Malone’s graduate program in counseling is fully accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Both the clinical mental health counseling and school counseling programs enjoy high pass rates for licensure board exams and high employment rates after graduation. Classes begin in August.

Mount Union, NEOMED
set pharmacy partnership  

 ALLIANCE – The University of Mount Union and Northeast Ohio Medical University have announced a partnership to provide a seven-year bachelor of science to doctor of pharmacy degree pathway. 

 This collaborative program allows exceptional Mount Union health science students the opportunity to accelerate their progress toward earning their terminal pharmacy degrees. Interested students complete three years at Mount Union, and during what would normally be their fourth year of study, they matriculate to NEOMED’s College of Pharmacy. At the College, pharmacy students receive credit for their requisite coursework to earn their bachelor’s at Mount Union while also completing their four-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree, effectively becoming a pharmacist in seven years. 

This program has been made effective for the incoming Fall 2022 undergraduate class at Mount Union. Students majoring in biology or biochemistry at Mount Union are eligible for the program. Learn more about this collaborative initiative at mountunion.edu/pharm-3-4.
