More complaint to the CFPB- I ENCOURAGE ANYONE WHO HAS ISSUES WITH TRUIST TO DO THE SAME
I am writing to formally raise a serious concern regarding my recent experience with Truist Bank. The actions taken by Truist personnel not only undermine trust but also appear retaliatory, unprofessional, and potentially violate banking regulations and consumer protection laws. As such, I am preparing formal complaints with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the Federal Reserve Board, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), among others.
Here are the facts of my experience:
I opened a small business checking account and a money market checking account at Truist.
The money market account was opened to house excess business funds due to the initially attractive APY. Without notice or formal change of terms, Truist materially lowered the APY.
In response, I moved the majority of the funds to another institution with a competitive APY.
Following my transfer of funds, a Truist representative contacted me and assured me that he could restore the APY and reverse any fees; however, no such action was taken.
Instead, Truist began charging monthly service fees on the money market account, resulting solely from the APY bait-and-switch and my removal of funds.
Upon noticing these fees, I consolidated the remaining funds into my checking account to prevent further charges.
Recently, the same Truist representative contacted me, insisting I come into a branch office to close the account. When I requested that he either (1) address the accumulated fees or (2) close the account immediately, he refused, stating closure required an in-person visit.
Despite this, the representative subsequently closed my account without my consent and sent it into collections — an act that appears retaliatory because Truist could no longer collect fees from the account.
This entire experience, particularly the final retaliatory action, reflects unacceptable conduct by Truist personnel, a lack of transparency, and a disregard for basic consumer protections. The core issue stems from a bait-and-switch on account terms, improper fee assessments, failure to fulfill representations made by Truist staff, and retaliatory account closure and collections actions.
Given the seriousness of these events, I am requesting:
A full investigation into this matter, including a review of the representative's actions.
Immediate reversal of all fees assessed to my account since the APY change without notice. (July/August of 2024)
Full written confirmation that no negative credit reporting or collections activity will be pursued against me.
A formal apology for the mistreatment and retaliation I experienced.
If Truist is unwilling to remedy this matter promptly and appropriately, I will be forced to proceed with full complaints to the CFPB, OCC, Federal Reserve Board, and my state's Attorney General.

Yes, arguably one of the worst banks to have an account with if you need to add and make transfers to family/friends' non-Truist external accounts. It takes 3 business days to verify and activate a non-Truist external account, even though you provide all details, whereas other banks like BOA do it in a day by verifying the other external account online and confirming with you by OTP. If you are looking to have a smooth transfer experience, do not use Truist.

Do not open a bank account with them and deposit any money if it's a new account. There are many reviews on Reddit. They almost scammed me. I had to email many of their VPs and finally got a call to fix it. They hold your money for no provided reason as a hold on a closed account.

We have been a corporate client of theirs for many years, but since their customer service is nonexistent, we are closing all of our accounts. However, they keep charging fees. Every time we pay off the fees and advise them to close the account, they turn around and charge fees again, then tell us they can't close the account until the fees are paid again.

My mortgage was purchased by Truist from my original mortgage company. It has been nothing but headaches ever since. This is the worst bank I have ever dealt with in my 30+ years as an adult. If you bank with them you will have problems.

I filed a dispute and an appeal regarding the denial of my dispute (apparently, the worker thought I was disputing the RentalCar charges. No, I am disputing the fact that I never received my withholding fee of $200 times two back)! I appealed with several Truist employees/customer services; persistently online, over the phone, and I sat with two different employees to go over it in person. All to which I was made to feel like an idiot, made to feel crazy, and not heard at all! My paperwork was never touched. This was all regarding fees that were removed from my secured credit card account from renting two separate rental cars in the month of December 2024.
Needless to say, I did not get my money back, but I promise you this—Truist will no longer get my money.
However, there is one worker that I would say is exceptional and goes above and beyond. Her name is Cassandra Tolbert from the Vero Beach office on Indian River Blvd. From what I hear, Truist is performing quite poorly. I expect Truist to be closed down and branded with another name before we know it. If I could give zero stars, I would. Every one of the employees (besides Cassandra) has a nasty attitude. I used to love going to SunTrust, but Truist is not SunTrust. I don't care what anybody says!
Might I add, I received one letter regarding my dispute, which was a denial, but I appealed that immediately. So, how come I haven't heard anything? Is it just okay for them to take my money? I work hard for my money, Truist!
I hope Cassandra gets her 10 stars because she definitely deserves it! That's one person out of two different banks that are in my town. That's pretty sad, Truist. That's okay; some other bank will get my money—someone that deserves it!

I called in for a dispute and the individual kept asking me the same questions repeatedly. I informed him that I had contacted the company I thought I had ordered the product from, and then he proceeded to ask me if it was a product or a service. The representative seemed uninformed and it was clear he was reading from his computer. He then instructed me to provide proof of purchase even though the transaction was visible on my bank statement and I had not received the product due to it being fraudulent. It's disappointing to admit that I once worked for this company, and now I am relieved I no longer do. The bank I am employed with now prioritizes customer service and goes to great lengths to ensure that customers are well taken care of, which I cannot say was the case at Truist.

I can't give zero stars, but it's what's deserved. I've never dealt with such incompetent customer service. Aside from the fact that the accents were difficult to understand, they had the same scripted response with absolutely no answer or solution to any problem. I am waiting for some matters attached to this account to resolve so I can finally stop doing business with this chaotic bank. I can't wait to take my business elsewhere. I don't know what's worse: the customer service, delays in updating account balances in real time, or the baseless reasons to withhold your money without a reason or response. Do better, Truist.

I had a negative experience with the bank. I went to open a savings account with Truist Bank but they closed the account the next day. I showed my passport, Social Security number, and work permit, all of which are legal, and they still don't want to return my money, $2,800.00. The people from the fraud department won't provide an answer as to why they refuse to return my checks even though they've already cashed them. They are inflexible and offer no assistance of any kind, nor are they willing to provide their first and last names. I don't recommend anyone to open an account there; beware.

My brothers and I have been struggling to close out a trust account from our father with Truist for almost two years. Due to backups in one department or another, glitchy email, or lost paperwork, we have faced a constant stream of excuses for inaction accompanied by superficial thank yous for our continued patience. Our patience ran out over a year ago, yet they continue to retain our father's investments while the economy suffers. One should never do business with the Truist Trust department. They are completely unresponsive, not trustworthy, and exasperating to deal with. Avoid them at all costs.

Of course, there's no option to review the new website. The new update, if you want to call it that, is the most user-unfriendly system I have ever encountered. There is no support; the representatives don't have any answers and barely speak English. The virtual chat is totally useless. This new system has caused many payment problems, and nobody has any answers. A customer since 1989, I think it's time for a change! Zero stars.

Truist has withheld credits against my credit card since March 2025. Several emails to Truist addressed to an associate have never been answered as of April 23, 2025. They debited my credit card for a cash advance using credits that belong to me, then charged fees and interest.

I've banked with Truist for the past 10 years and boy have they gone down the drain. Who charges to bank with them?!?! Monthly fee is $7 just to have your account go into the negative because of " maintenance fee.". Horrible business practice and a great way to run off your customers. Not to mention the $36 over draft fee they charge on top of the maintenance fee when THEY put you into the negatives. Basically Theft at this point. I have savings and checking through Truist but they 100% lost me as a customer and will be closing my account shortly.

I was quite upset with this bank for a while. After 15 years of banking with Suntrust, which has now become Truist Bank, they are overriding customers' decisions that were established when we opened our accounts.
They are causing trouble for their customers. The phrasing they use in online banking for changing passwords doesn't make sense at all; they can't even use simple language like 'change your passwords.' Also, they are separating the joint accounts that we have had for more than 15 years. I was really hurt and frustrated because it seems like they think they can control their customers with their misguided ideas.
For Truist Bank's leadership: Do you think your customers lack of education to the point where they don't understand of what is right and what is wrong? The way you have done this shows that you lack of common sense. Treating your customers in such a dismissive way is ill-advised. Don't you realize that people have logic and understand what you are trying to do? Don't you think that you could be causing trouble by potentially affecting the health of your customers through stress and problems you created, not to mention wasting their time with your poorly conceived actions regarding their accounts?

BUYER BEWARE - This bank uses false advertising tactics and claims there are settings on your account that prevent you from making balance transfers, etc. Also, my card has been compromised multiple times - unreliable, dishonest, and not secure!

If you redeem credits from any Truist credit card for a deposit into your Truist personal checking, savings or money market account, you'll get a "Loyalty Cash Bonus". Truist's daily ATM withdrawal limit is either $500 or $2,500, depending on your benefit level. For Levels 1 and 2, the daily ATM withdrawal limit is $500. For Levels 3, 4, and 5, the limit is $2,500.
Please note that withdrawal limits may change over time, so it's always best to verify the current limit for your account. If you have any specific needs or questions about your account, it's always a good idea...
The correct answer, Lauren, is $36. You may want to actually know what you're talking about before you post these things. That Lauren person saying Truist doesn't charge an overdraft because they dont put through items if u don't have enough money in yer account is WRONG. Not only did they put through a check when I didn't have enough money, but they actually put the check through a day before it was dated (which...
No, there aren't any BB&T business rewards cards available right now. BB&T is now part of Truist Bank, so the closest you'll get to a BB&T business card is the Truist Business Credit Card, which does not offer rewards. The card offers an intro APR of 0% for 12 months on purchases, followed by a regular APR of 15.49%-24.49% (V).
To get rewards, you could use a general-consumer credit card from Truist Bank for business expenses. Plus, other...

You can make a Truist Bank payment online, by phone, or by mail. To pay bill online, log in to your online account and find the payment button. Then, choose how much to pay, when to pay it, and where the payment is coming from. Truist Bank does allow cardholders to set up automatic payments, too.

Truist does not publicly disclose a specific overdraft limit. The amount that can be covered by overdraft can vary depending on several factors, including your account history, and the type of transaction.
