A brilliant game that definitely deserves more
SyoKennex28 August 2017
From developer and published Valve, comes Team Fortress 2. Released all the way back in 2007, TF2 has been a popular game for ten years now for many different reasons. With more players joining every day, there's something about TF2 that keeps bringing players back for more.

Maybe it's the 500+ achievements that prove to be a challenge for all achievement hunters out there. Maybe it's the hats and upgrades constantly being added to the game over time. Maybe it's the constant servers always online for players to head online and battle each other.

With servers all over proving to be a challenge for even experienced players, there's somewhere for everyone. There's a class for everyone to play and there's things all the time for people to enjoy. There are numerous different maps and play types.

I personally love this game because each round is something new. There's never a round that is exactly the same. I love playing this game both with my friends and without my friends. There's never a dull moment. Although a simple team versus team game, there is a lot of strategy that's needed. You really need to think about things, and you can't just go flying into battle. (Well, you can, but usually it ends in you being killed countless times.)

Each round lasts approximately 10 minutes, without overtime. With numerous different types of levels to play, there's sure to be one for you that you enjoy. I personally love King of the Hill and Payload. I find them really challenging, especially when it's a full team of 12 versus 12.

Of course, the in game chat can be really horrible at times, especially with such a prejudice to certain players and classes (new players are often screamed at, and some classes are just hated for their roles in the game – snipers, spies and pyros mostly). Also on some maps, if you play the game how you're meant to, people will have a go because they'd rather have a death match (rather than play the level, get the experience and move on with the game and their lives). However, I've met some lovely people on the in game chat, and you'd be surprised at how many people are actually happy to help the new players out with tips and tricks in team chat.

Overall, this is a really fun game if you like shooters. It's fun to play online with your friends, it's fun to play without your friends, and it's one of those that really gets you thinking on strategy. I really recommend this to everyone who likes to play shooters, and it's definitely a massive challenge for achievement hunters. (I've played 29 hours, and I still only have 18 out of 520 achievements.)

Hats.
Gamesearcher19 December 2018
Some of my greatest hours online in a video game have been in this game. No it's not dead, 11 years after its initial release, and it has been changed with hundred of updates over those years. Team Fortress 2 is a class-oriented, team-based, first-person shooter, and the key to the magic of the game is that it ticks all three criteria perfectly. There are nine distinct classes, all of which with different personalities, although the game (thankfully) doesn't use this too much, except in the well-written banter, playstyles and weapons. I'm a Medic main myself, and even within the confines of a class, there is so much variety to choose from. I might want to change my melee weapon for the specific type of game-mode or switch my medi-gun to one catered to my team. Every one of the nine classes is a blast to play, although I do definitely have my favourites. The second aspect of Team Fortress 2, is how team-based the game is. It's usually a harsh 12v12 (in Casual) fight out there, and so relying on your team is vital, especially for a Medic main. This doesn't mean one extremely skilled player can't dominate an entire team, with enough luck. But the massive player count also lets you ease out a bit, and play whatever you want, adding to the casual atmosphere. And then comes the first-person shooter, and, damn are weapons. A pivotal part of the game is how much damage everything does. It heavily encourages dodging instead of taking the hit, even as a slower class like the Heavy. But when you're not avoiding, you're shooting, and there is an amazing amount of variety of weapons. A weapon slot that is one of the best is the knives for Spy. From the iconic stock one to the Kunai and the Big Earner, both of which reward Spies that take the risk of having severely lowered health, for a massive payoff on a backstab, to the Spy-cicle, which mitigates the Spy's arch enemy, the Pyro, to the Your Eternal Reward, which morphs you into who you backstab, the best for a multiple stab-streak. And all this for one selection of weapons, and every class has at least three of these selections. But a fundamental problem is that except in scenarios such as that, there's almost always a clear winner in the best weapon for the category. And while the argument that the game is free is valid, you only start off with stock. But this could be countered by the fact that very quickly, you will find a whole lot of weapons, and with services like Scrap.tf, you can gain any weapon you want. There is a soundtrack to this game, but mostly, all you'll hear of it is in the main menu. Most of them are actually from the Meet the Team series, something almost any whose heard TF2 has seen. The story is even less included but is explained the over-the-top comics that can be accessed on the game's official website. There are hundreds of maps, and some are incredibly bad, such as Mountain Lab, most let each class serve its true potential. The game's casual nature is also another true key nature, and while you will come across an occasional crybaby, no-one is ever that bad. A key memory was when we were losing, and then eight, including me, of us switched to Scouts, and we demolished the opposition. Moments like that aren't rare, though, and even in a balanced team, you'll have a boatload of fun. Overall, Team Fortress 2 is the pinnacle of what it strives to be, and inspiration for basically every class-based shooter after it. Oh, yeah, and hats.

Old But Alive
kervindonngo25 November 2023
For a game that is so old but yet so fun. Team Fortress 2 is absolutely is absolutely a fun game to even play. Rather than just having realistic old-school character models. The game focuses on a cartoony aspect. Maps remained great, classes which are treated as actual characters rather than just generic characters and the game is still absolutely the most fun that I absolutely have.

However, the biggest downside that I have not played this game for the past years is that I have to upgrade my inventory for it and pay it in real cash. Back then when I was very young I could not even get my rewards because of a full inventory and it did not really motivate me to play this game. I expect to have this game as a level-up feature that unlocks inventory slots but it doesn't. Plus the players in the game were absolutely abusive. They were absolutely rude and disrespectful that this game did not have a turn-off chat feature which absolutely disturbs my gameplay. Although they have a tutorial on YouTube on how to disable chat.

Team Fortress 2 still remains great for other players in Steam and maybe someday I will go playing this game again.

Since now i am a TF2 fan i really enjoy this game.
LucaElliot12325 June 2014
According to how much good stuff there is about Team Fortress 2, the game is awesome, hilarious and many awesome characters.

The game with 9-amazing-mercenaries and many psychopaths, the game revealed to be "one of the best games ever made". The camera was stupid but the whole entire game is awesome.

My fav. character is Scout and Heavy, both hilarious and mean in a good way and i think the multi-player mode is the best thing to use.

The game is better on PC then it is on XBOX 360. This game is so awesome and deserved to be "one of the best games of all time"

10/10

P.S. The game is highly made for fun and it is filled with light-hearted animation and fun

Superior to both fortnite and overwatch
budd-1738326 August 2019
I discovered this game in the summer of 2015 through a friend. At first I didn't really fully understand it, like the vast majority of new TF2 players, but i tell you, I was HOOKED, and did I never want to stop playing it. Despite only being loosely story driven and much more of an online FPS, the characters still somehow manage to be some of the best in fiction. Even with the pyro, a faceless maniac with little to no identifying bodily features still thrives with personality. Instead of the full cosmetic packages that you're unable to mix and match in OW and Fortnite, TF2 allows you to create different combinations of cosmetics, and you can even paint them and add attributes to them (strange, unusual, etc.). Also, unlike many, many other online FPS games, TF2 takes the vastly unique route of being cartoony, self-aware and silly, instead of the COD/OW route of being serious all/most of the time. Also, the community, (despite having some unfavourable people in it, as with most fandoms) is very creative, especially those who contribute to the workshop. Although, it's quite disappointing that everyone worships fortnite and overwatch like it's going out of fashion, they ignore the much, much better alternative that was there the whole time.

10/10, would certainly recommend.

Better than Overwatch
randyfromscream14 October 2017
I hate Overwatch it looks terrible. This is pure childhood right here. I don't care about PC getting updates as long as it's still fun. This is the best shooter game I've play since Call of Duty. Scout is my favorite class because he's a fast runner when collecting data and Heavy is good for capture points. I don't care what people think I still like this game.

The best FPS Game I have ever played.
mrblueanimations5 November 2020
Call me a boomer for enjoying an old game, but you can't deny it. TF2 is a masterpiece. The first time I played it was very fun and up to now it still is fun. Yes, Valve pretty much doesn't give it major updates anymore but I don't really care. As long as we have the Kazotsky Kick, we are all set.

scout forever.

Masterpiece!
Analog_Devotee3 August 2021
This game has held a very sizeable community for the past 14 years for a very simple reason: it's a fan-freakin'-tastic competitive First Person Shooter that doesn't take itself seriously in the slightest.

I still come back for a few matches once a week after all these years. Newcomers are greatly welcomed!

south_pacific14 November 2022
You can be a tiny boston bagel that dodges every thing you can be a patriotic psychopath that forced himself into WWII, and jumped around with rockets you can be a guy that might be mexican you can be a black dude that can either lunge at you with a sword or go boom boom you can be a fat russian man with a sandvich and a minigun you can be a texan that builds unbuildable stuff such as teleporters you can be a german doctor that steals body parts you can be an australian that throws pee in a jar you can be a baguette terrorist.

A little difficult to get into but a great game once you get a hang of it.

TF2, beaten while its down.
jyemoore18 March 2022
Tf2 is a game ruined by bots and hackers, but before that there was a great game with recognisable characters, a great community with the best fan and official animations, but i wish there was more updates and bug fixes. Would give a 8/10 but now its a 5.7/10 till valve tries to heal the wounds of this game.

2023 and it is still fun
TheAmongus16 March 2023
Ah, Team Fortress 2, the game that won't die no matter how long the time passes. And this is "How it feels to play Team Fortress 2" in 2023. First, let's talk about what is Team Fortress 2 shouldn't I? Team Fortress 2, or short term, TF2 is a game developed by the Valve corporation. Team Fortress 2 project was a sequel mod for Quake which is a first-person shooting game that turns into a remake game called "Team Fortress Classic" which today still running.

After Team Fortress Classic turned into a well-known mod the Valve corporation decided to create a new game called Team Fortress 2 in 2007. All the characters have a unique play style. Each class even has what the community so-called a sub-class, which changes the play style entirely. What makes the game unique these day is the graphic and the gameplay. In the other FPS shooting games, even more teamwork than usual, considering the amount of gunfire from all nine classes shooting at each other while needing to do the objective. The game is also fast-paced game and can be dynamic in terms of gameplay and teamplay. However, some people might find it chaotic when they first boot it up to play. Some people find the game confusing even with a tutorial to help them out. Since the game has been running for sixteen years the system is prone to breakdown, has a ton of bugs, and tons of exploiters, ready to destroy it.

But the reason that the game is not dead and even exploiters or hackers around the world come in to destroy the game is because of community. TF2 community is well known to be one of the best communities compared to any other online game. They are friendly, have a good sense of humor, and a fair. These are the things that make TF2 special. It isn't just a game to us people, it is a place where we want to enjoy ourselves.

In conclusion, even if the game is sixteen years old as long as a community like us is willing to stay and fight for the gave living it will not go down to waste, overall I love the game and I suggest you guys try it out .

Rick May shall live on forever in our hearts being known as many things such as the Soldier from Team Fortress 2. For now, the Soldier might end up the most played class for a while due to this occurrence. And that is something that is very acceptable.

I have no clue what else to write besides this:

Rick May shall rest in peace.

By far the best game I've ever played
ivosantini20 November 2023
This game is special. At first, you might not recognise that. You might need at least 500 hours to even learn the basics. However, once you get passed that and start exploring the unlimited potential of every single class, start getting deeper and deeper into the raw skill that this game requires you end up completely in love with this masterpiece. There is no game that offers so much dopamine, the airshots, the trickstabs, the outplays... By far the best FPS ever created, never got the recognition it deserves nor updates - but who cares? It's community is very much alive after 15 years, and trust me, the game will live on and outlive all the other FPS games that come out because it doesn't depend on new graphics and updates. It thrives in giving the player such freedom and joy that only an experienced TF2 player will ever understand. The mechanics of rocket jumping, trimping and trickstabbing alone can give you thousands of hours of fun and it's just one small part of this legendary game.

Captures the magic of teamwork
coasterdude4420 January 2022
Team Fortress 2 in 2022 shouldn't still be alive and kicking, but it is. The game's longevity has inspired me on many occasions and after playing it for almost 8 years now, I can definitely say that this game has aged incredibly well and it's tight, well rounded gameplay hasn't gotten old or stale for me quite just yet.

It's funny too, because when I was much younger and saw glimpses of this game only months after it was first released, I was not immediately impressed. I found the visual design of this game to be off-putting to me, I found the cartoonish character and weapon design too cheap and simple looking, and I immediately judged this as bad quality. So I avoided it for several years and had no real interest in playing this one.

But then I started watching the ''Meet The'' videos on YouTube in 2013. I really liked most of the characters and they were very funny with really good voice acting. I also really liked the gameplay style of the spy and just how satisfying a backstab looked, so I downloaded the free game on Steam to give it a try

One thing that blew me away right off the bat is just how well thought out and varied the playstyles of each different class was, and how nothing was clunky or cumbersome, which was a massive improvement over the original 1999 game. Everything felt streamlined and expertly crafted. I still didn't like the art style at first, but it's uniqueness slowly grew on me and I realized it wasn't as simple and dull looking as I previously thought and most of my first glance judgments were. Addressed

It's a marvel to see such a complex game with different classes effortlessly bounce off eachother. After playing it for only a few hours, you get the hang of how each character plays and how easy and responsive the interface is because this is an extremely fast paced game. It's also very funny and I love how it rewards opportunities of real time teamwork. The imdb description describes the characters as psychopaths but the reality is is that you feel so much empathy from the online players when you play a match, mostly. So many times you think you're dead until you realise two medics have got your back, giving you that extra nudge to push forward. You can heal other players by playing Medic or giving them a sandvich. There are many emotes such as the conga which is funny to watch, I remember times where entire competitive matches would stop so the conga could just get bigger and bigger.. You always feel like you're part of a team with every player in bent on achieving victory

Overall I think it's one of the most well aged games of all time and is still my favorite class based shooter, though there still aren't that many/ I liked Overwatch for a while, but It didn't have the same charm and got older faster with almost zero customization. TF2 is customization galore. Also Overwatch is basically dead at this point, still waiting for that sequel to revive it's popularity. However TF2 never needed a follow up, since Its been updated so many times now, and I would probably find another sequel to this to be a downgrade in one way or another, but you never know. Don't think Valve have any plans to make a TF3 anyway.

this has been my favorite game since like 2012 or 2014 at least 2013
yikeks4 July 2020
I can't respect how the Steam team can let you get items from each possible thing, and 100% respect for them having a Steam Community market so you can buy a item so it won't be a long time wasting all of that time. The team for TF2 try their hard to update the game. So how about community feedbacks, and if someone wants a positive update then let it happen!

NOW IT'S COWARD KILLING TIME! HAHAHAHA! >:D
troyblancke3 November 2019
This game. this game is one of the best games. it of course needs to be fixed. like the hitboxes. unbalanced weapons, Random Crits... this game gets the least attention of Valve and the people that use Steam. which i don't find it all fair. this game has been alive more then a decade and it uses the "you do something wrong, you get punished" like if you walk into a sticky trap. you get punished. i find that good to let people play more to improve. i highly reccomend this game and don't think about quitting cause its hard. practice
