Protect your account if there's unfamiliar activity

If your Google Account is used on a new device, you might get a "Did you just sign in?" notification on all Android devices that are already signed in.

As soon as possible, review the notification and let us know if it was you or not.

If the activity wasn't you

To protect your account right away, respond to the notification.

Step 1: Help secure your account right away

  1. On the notification, review the sign-in details, including device type, time, and location.
  2. If this activity doesn't look familiar, tap No, it's not me.

What happens next

  • When you tell us the activity wasn't you, your account will be signed out on all other devices.
  • If anyone tries to sign in on a device you haven't used before, there will be an extra step to confirm your identity. This step is designed to let you in easily but stop others. Learn how to verify it's you.

Step 2: Change your password as soon as you can

  1. On the notification, tap Change password. (If the notification is gone, open your Google Account. Under "Sign-in & security," select Password.)
  2. Follow the steps on the screen.

If the activity was you

  1. On the notification, review the sign-in details, including device type, time, and location.
  2. If you're sure this activity was done by you, tap Yes.

Why we send this notification

This alert helps protect your account in case someone else finds out your password and signs in as you. You can take action immediately to help secure your account, even if you don't change your password on the spot.

If you don't have an Android device: To see security notifications, check the email account you use to sign in or the recovery email address for your account.
