In my experience, Genisys is not an institution with integrity. I refinanced my vehicle through Genisys by way of a third party and had no previous experience with the bank.
It is clear that they go to great lengths to ensure that making principal only payments and attempting to pay off a loan early is as difficult as possible.
Their online platform is lousy, and their customer support was unimpressive (they have a chat feature on their site, but good luck getting someone to answer a phone). I'm looking forward to jumping through the necessary hoops that will allow me to pay off my loan and be finished with Genisys.
These reviews are correct; this credit union is a greedy scheme. I used their services for many years, then moved out of state but maintained my account with them. I continued to use it while living out of state for some time and then eventually stopped using my account for a while. I planned on closing it when I returned for a visit. One day, when I logged in to check my account, I discovered they had been deducting a monthly fee for not using my card. My money was automatically transferred to their accounts every month I didn't use my debit card. I was shocked! I was never informed this would happen and never received any mail notices about these charges, even though they had my correct current address. When I called them, they said they couldn't do anything about it and suggested I cancel my account if I wasn't using their card. I had to drop everything and drive back just to cancel my account with them, and they refused to refund any of my money. I had a few hundred dollars in my account and ended up closing my account with about $75 left. My current bank has no penalties for not using their card, which is reassuring.
What a joke. If you are thinking of becoming a member, or you are one, then run as far away as you can. Fees upon fees, and they do nothing to help you; they are also rude. If you value your money, put it somewhere else. It would probably be safer in a hole in your backyard than in this credit union. They will take your money and refuse to give it back. They deliberately process the withdrawals first each morning, and the deposits afterward, so that you incur a fee. They give you a fee if a transaction is authorized one day but doesn't withdraw until the following day, even when you have the money in your account the next day. Worst financial institution in the world, and they don't even deserve the 1 star.

I'll say this: If you haven't given Genisys a chance to do your mortgage, then you're missing out. They are quick, efficient, honest, and most of all, they have your best interest at heart! The team went above and beyond for our family. We weren't just a number or a mortgage; we were treated like family. I promise you will build a relationship with this team and bank, and you will want them to handle your financial needs going forward. I definitely recommend that you talk to Lynn, Dillon, Ellen Wiseman, and Lance Smith! You won't regret teaming up with the Genisys team. Thank you again, and you have our business for life!
I have been with this credit union for over 25 years . I’ve changed ownership and each transaction has been smooth. They are attentive and willing to help, going out of their way to make sure you are happy. Great place to bank.
Pros..... Very help customer service and a Good company to get a loan. Only con is there website is hard to navigate. But overall it's good when looking to refinance.
I wouldn't recommend banking with this credit union. Customer support is subpar and borderline rude, and they don't know what they're talking about and will act like they do so you meet their unreasonable demands. I've been a member of this credit union for almost 2 years now, ever since I refinanced my auto loan, and although I was able to get an exceptional interest rate through this bank, today I decided I wanted to try expanding my relationship with this bank by also opening a checking account. I already had a savings account, as it's required to be a member, and I have a perfect on-time payment history with my auto loan, so I assumed this wouldn't be difficult. Unfortunately, I was incorrect in that regard, as although new members could complete the application for a checking account online, existing members had to do so through a paper application, that had to be completed, signed, and emailed to the bank. There is no way to open a checking account while logged in or open one over the phone. I figured it wasn't too much of a hassle though, so I went ahead and used the application form and emailed it to them. Then they requested I remove the security freeze from my ChexSystems consumer report. This was understandable, as this consumer report shows prior banking relationships, which as far as I know have all been great, so I complied. However, they then requested I remove the security freeze from my credit reports as well. I asked them why that was necessary for a checking account and they wouldn't provide a clear answer. I then tried calling and had to wait on hold for over half an hour to get someone on the line, who then told me that "all banks do it" and that "it was common, especially for credit unions." I knew this to be inaccurate, as I have accounts with 3 other major credit unions, and 5 other accounts with bigger name banks, and I've never had this asked of me before for a checking account. I told her as much and she didn't seem to appreciate me questioning her. I find it very odd that a bank would need to ascertain my credit-worthiness for a checking account, considering I have a loan with them for almost 2 years with a perfect payment history, and that their ChexSystems report should show similar relationships with other financial institutions. Anyhow, I decided I didn't want the checking account enough to allow them to bulldoze me into removing my security freeze to obtain my credit information for no reason. I'm more than happy to bank elsewhere. I only wanted their checking account because of the high advertised interest rate, but even that had small print like having to use their debit card 10 times a month. I don't use debit cards, so I may not have been able to even benefit from the high interest anyway. For now, I'll just continue using my Upgrade Savings account that has a 4.8% APY (and no credit check lol). Hope this helps someone else avoid a toxic relationship with this bank.
A great credit union - yes savings rates may not be the highest BUT loan rates are very competitive- Customer service is outstanding and I’ll say this: having been a member Almost 30 years - they are amongst the best !!!
Genisys makes it hard to move money in and out of accounts. You cannot transfer money electronically between other financial institutions. You must either write a check, pay for a wire transfer, or go to an ATM and take money out to transfer money to a different bank or credit union. They really need to move into the 21 century. They do not use Zelle or any other third-party transfer system. They do have decent rates for loans and savings.
I use to love my credit union. I have been a member for over 20 years. I currently have a loan and i don't have any problems. Lately that is not the case. Tellers represent the company and when you have rude obnoxious overbearing tellers this makes it difficult for customers to remain positive and supportive of this CU. Case in point i was at the window and with these two black tellers their is always something to annoy me with. If you have a policy about masks and you do post that at the door if that's a requirement don't ask someone to remove a mask and you won't remove yours. If there is a problem don't poke fun as what happen to me. She was just being funny and told her friend because she could and said image face etc was plastered all over the internet. This is wrong on so many levels. If a person has change you take it. You are a bank! You don't tell them you need to roll a dollar. That is ridiculous. If there are overdraft and insufficient funds you don't tell the customer its your problem not ours and its an auto draw. You find out how that happen or get someone who can help. This CU is not WHERE YOU COME FIRST! Anymore. Some of your tellers and lower management have the senseless idea that i am the enemy because i still wear a mask and glasses. I am harmless and staff here needs some retraining.
Bank credit card. Have no problem with this card. Also able to work with. Auto taken from my check. I went to this credit union because they are a better bank!
I am glad i went to Genisys cu. they are willing to help get you credit back I track. If there is a problem they do their best to fix it. Or help you solve. I am treated like I am important to them. I will not leave, or ever go back to a bank. All loans are paid off. Have just my credit card with them.

Genisys is overall fairly disappointing. They have lower interest rates on loans which is the only reason we opened an account and set up direct deposit as a second account. Now that we want to actually use some of the money we have in the account it has been nothing but headaches. They have senseless processes with the idea of security which seem more designed to prevent you from accessing your money. This includes no ACH transfers at all, only wire, and you best be able to get into a branch for that. We'll hopefully be closing all our accounts in the next week or two when we can actually make it into the branch.
