US Airways Frequent Flyer mileage

Hi, I am wondering how secure my frequent flyer account is with US Airways due to their current situation. What do you think? Think I should turn my miles in and get tickets or do you think they will be flying for a while? Are there any US Airways employees out there who wouldn't mind sharing the information that is going around (of course, anonymously)? Thanks for your help!

If they file for Chapter 11, it will take quite some time. In the past, when an airline is bought out by another line, the new airline honors the frequent flyer miles.

I just flew 4 USAirways flights this weekend and sat next to USAirways employee once and eavesdropped on passenger pilot sitting across aisle on another (I used miles to upgrade since I am also nervous). Both felt that USAirways unions would give airline a problem with restructuring contracts so that Chapter 11 might be a necessary way to at least partially force unions to take less. Both said government loan guarantees were only way airline could survive.

I have same question about miles - but I am not sure if USAirways issues tickets for miles and disappears whether another airline would honor them after that. I also do not think miles are automatically transferred to new airline - in a merger that might make sense, but what if the airline is parcelled out in pieces - gates, routes, etc. - to others. (PS - I am not the same "gail" as above poster)

Just returned from St. John, USVI on Saturday and flew USAir. While down there, we ran into a pilot we had met a few years back. He said that no one is paying cash and that all flights are maxing out FF capacity. So, people are cashing out their FF miles in a big hurry, probably for a reason.

Thanks everybody for your advice. I think I will keep trying Flyer Talk website and see what the scuttlebutt is there. I hate to lose those miles but I just came back from a vacation and couldn't do another one so soon.
