Exclamation Cannot connect to HONORS WiFi using iOS devices

I have had an issue connecting to the HHONORS network at multiple Hilton brand properties. I wrote up the post below with all the details as well as several things I tried to resolve the issue.

https://philditguy.wordpress.com/201...rs-wifi-blues/

The issue is that when I choose 'HHonors', I see a checkmark next to HHonors in the settings app, the connection does receive an IP Address, but I never see the WiFi icon on the top of the screen. This happens with three different devices (iPhone 6, ipad mini, iPad Air with Retina Display) at four different properties. I am able to connect to airport wifi and other public and private networks with these devices.

Appreciate any thoughts beyond those referenced in the post above.

this could be a setting issue. maybe you have a custom setting on all your devices that is due to how you have set them up to connect to a specific wifi network (e.g. work/home)

try this:

Still can’t connect?
Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you’ve used before.

I have the same problem at most Hilton hotels with my Apple devices. When I take my wife and daughter with me, theirs have the same problem. My android phone and Windows laptop connect without issue. I'm currently at a Doubletree which uses a different connection option but it still lags during the connection.

I found that if you just leave it for a while or put it in airplane mode and leave Wifi on of course, it will connect eventually. It used to frustrate me at first, but now I know how to deal with it.

I have no problems with my iPhone's connecting. Usually don't even need to go through the login process. It just connects.

If you are subscribed to AT&T, it will connect without prompting as long as AT&T is the provider at that hotel (or anywhere else for that matter). Lately, a lot of the hotels I've been staying at don't have AT&T as their WiFi provider.

Have iPhone 6 and first generation iPad mini. Neither of them ever have any trouble connecting at Hilton properties.

If you are having issues joining the WiFi on an iOS device it's usually because it's not automatically opening the gateway page. To manually open the page, do the following on your iOS device:
  1. Connect to the WiFi (attwifi, hhonors, etc.)
  2. Enter the address "1.1.1.1" in a web browser (Safari, et al.)
  3. Complete the gateway page sign-in
Once you've gone through the gateway page, you should be able to use the WiFi on your iOS device without issue.

Internationally I've had success using wifi.mercury.ibahn.com in the browser to bring up the log in page.

Thanks for that info. I had been telling the device to forget the network and then reconnecting, which usually worked. Your procedure is simpler.

Do you have any VPN or Boingo on your devices? Had this same issue with my iPhone, and disconnecting and forgetting network, etc didn't work, until I disabled VPN and uninstalled Boingo. Then it worked fine.

I had neither VPN nor Boingo and I had the problem. Interestingly, since I put VPN on the iOS device, I have not had the problem.

Restarting my iPad seems to solve the wifi problem I've been having at hotels.

In my case, getting to the gateway page is not the issue, it just doesn't seem to connect at all.

Yet another provider who stupidly uses a publically routable address space (1.1.1.1 is Cloudfare's DNS server) for their own internal network rather than RFC1918 space.
