5 Reasons Why And How You Can’t Create A Tumblr Account In 30 Seconds

Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social networking site. The website advertises or says that it will take you a mere “30 seconds to join” or register and create an account. In what way can this be false, untrue or just not possible?

Well, actually, depending on the circumstances, the aforementioned statement might be true. But there are several instances which would make that statement false. Let’s take a look at them:

reasons why and how you can't create/register/signup for a tumblr account in 30 seconds

Username

The very first page of the sign up or registration process asks you for a username, which you have to type in the provided textbox. At first glance, that seems really easy and shouldn’t take more than a few seconds.

The problem is if you have yet to come up with a username that you want for your Tumblr account. If you still have to think of what username you want, that will definitely take some time depending on how fast you can come up with a username.

Even if you already know exactly what username you want to use, there could still be a problem if the username you want to use is already being used by someone else. If that’s the case, then you need to spend some more time coming up with a new username.

Password

Naturally, Tumblr’s sign up page also asks you for a password. This part is really easy but only if you already know what password you want to use.

You’ll need a password that you can remember but that others won’t be able to guess. You can choose to use a password that you’re already using on other sites or you can come up with a password that you’ll only use for your Tumblr account. You can try to add symbols and numbers to ensure that you have a strong password.

Either way, if you haven’t decided on a password yet and need some time to think things through, then it will definitely take you more than a few seconds before you can get to the next step in Tumblr’s registration process.

Terms Of Service

Tumblr provides a checkbox next to the words “I have read, understood and agree to the terms of service” along with a link to said terms. All you have to do is put a check on that checkbox and you should be all set.

Technically, that shouldn’t even take more than a second or 2. However, that’s only assuming that you don’t want to read the terms and policies of the site or that you’ve already read all of it prior to registering.

If you actually want to read the TOS or if you haven’t read it yet and actually want to read it all before signing up, then that will definitely take a lot of time.

Tumblr has a long TOS page. Even if you only decide to read the provided annotations or even if you only decide to skim-read, that will still take you more than 30 seconds, especially if you actually want to be able to understand and comprehend what you’re reading.

Captcha

You have to type down 2 words as part of Tumblr’s sign up process. The captcha part of the registration process would be really easy and wouldn’t take much time at all but that’s only if the 2 words that you get are easy to understand and decipher.

If you get jumbled or mixed up letters and symbols that you can’t read, much less make out, then you’ll have to keep clicking on the captcha refresh button to get new words until you get one that you can type. That can take a lot of time unless you get lucky enough to get an easy-to-type captcha on the first try.

“Find Blogs. Follow 3”

This is actually optional in that if you don’t want to find and follow blogs for now (who would want to if you’re new and don’t know anyone yet or haven’t even had the chance to explore the site yet?), then you can just head straight to your Tumblr dashboard.

But if you actually want to find some blogs to follow, then this can take a lot of time especially if you don’t yet have an idea which blog or what kind of blog to follow. If you don’t want to randomly follow people, then you’d want to check out their blogs first and see what kind of posts they have so you can determine if you’re interested enough to want to follow them.

*Note: this article was previously published elsewhere, back when I had yet to register/create/join Tumblr. It’s possible that there may now be changes to some of Tumblr’s pages including their terms, rules, policies, registration page, etc.
