Students at the College of Science, Technology and the Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) are being advised to exercise extra caution and vigilance in going about their activities following the Wednesday afternoon robbery of a student at gunpoint.
The student was reportedly robbed by an armed assailant around 4.25 pm on Wednesday just in front of Balisier House in Port-of-Spain, a stone’s throw away from the College’s Melville Lane campus.
An advisory was sent out to students warning them to be attentive to their surroundings and hypervigilant around the area.
Further, students were advised to walk in groups if possible.
A statement to LoopTT from the College’s Student Affairs Department said that while there were no additional details that could be provided on Wednesday’s robbery, COSTAATT remains committed to the safety and wellbeing of all its students.
“Though the robbery occurred in a public space and not on campus, the College is quite mindful that there has been an increase in these types of assaults within the Port of Spain area.
Given this and our genuine concern for our students, we issued the e-mail to raise their awareness of the situation, as they make their way to and from our City Campus.
We are deeply committed to our students and their wellbeing and will continue to be responsive where their safety is concerned,” the statement read.
