I signed up for a 7 day trial of American Greetings ecards on 3/30/2025. On 4/2/2025(3 days later) I attempted to cancel the trial due to the complexity of sending the ecards. I was deceptively led down a path online that caused me to sign up for a 1 year membership for $32.69. I immediately contacted the company explaining the situation on 4/3/2025. Now the company is saying that I did not communicate to them to cancel within the 7 day trial period. The email thread began on 4/3/2025. That would be 4 days into the trial period. Now they are saying the membership is no longer refundable because it is beyond 7 days. They are using deceptive practices and avoiding customer resolution. I have the documented email thread.Business Response

I keep getting emails saying my "membership" is up for renewal. I have never purchased a membership or anything at all from this company, American Greetings. I emailed them to tell them to cancel whatever account has my name on it and to refund any money they took from my bank account. I have reported this as fraud to my bank and will be reporting it to the FTC as well.Business Response

I got an email from you 3/16/2025. Thanking me for my $29.99 payment for a membership. Customer Number: ********* I do not remember ever signing up for this. I followed the link in email to the American Greetings web site. I tried to sign on and did not have a password. I had the site send me a reset password link. I created a password. I signed into my account. I went under my purchase history and no cards have ever been sent. It looks like sometime in 2023 there was a 7 day traial. I do not remember signing up for this. No cards are noted as ever been sent. After the trail I guess a subscription was started and I was charged for a year. It looks like this auto renewed. I turned this off!! After searching how to discontinue subscription, i found shutting off auto- renewal is the only way to stop subscription. I did not get any emails telling me a head of time that this membership was coming up for renewal. It also looks like it was also charged in 2024. This membership I did not know I had and never used has doubled in price from $14 to $29.99. I do not ever recall getting an email informing me of this. I never signed up for the membership I never knew I had the membership or ever used it. I never received any email of a price increase that DOUBLED in price. I never received an email telling me that this membership was going to be renewed and my credit card will be charged. I ONLY received a thank you for your $29.99 payment. For these reasons I am asking for a refund or I will dispute the charge with my credit card company. I am disabled and on medicare. I can not afford a membership. This membership was handled in a very sneaky manner. People are being taken advantage of. Until this situation arised I had thought of American Greetings Company as very reputable card company. Not anymore.Business Response

I signed up for a trial (7 day) for on line digital greeting cards supposedly refundable but needed to put credit card information I used paypal after 3 days I was looking for a card for my sister and I noticed they had made me a member and charged my paypal account. I called them about it and was told no refunds This is not what I would call good business practice. The woman repeatedly told me that they would cancel the reoccurring membership taking place a year from now And I insisted they refund my credit card She hung up on me. This practice that American Greeting cards is using should be stopped and not allowed Please help me recuperate my moneyBusiness Response

I clicked on a Free Trial on ************************** It brought me to a page to create an account and choose my membership type (it defaulted to annual subscription). Beneath this it gave the date one week from then that the free trial will end and the annual membership will begin. To cancel, simply visit the Manage Membership Page. Then I had to enter my credit card information, and at the bottom click, "Begin Free Trial." Well, immediately I got an email that I had been charged $29.99 for an annual membership. I have reached out to them several times for a refund but they refuse saying I signed up for the annual membership. There was no way to sign up for the Free Trial without also choosing a membership type!Business Response

I was recently auto-charged, with no advance warning (or any notice whatsoever - I traced this from a charge on my credit card), for a renewal of this service that I do not use, similar to several other complaints registered here. I immediately asked for cancellation/refund of the membership on the company website, and all they did was turn off my auto-renewal, which I had already done upon seeing the unwanted charge. They refuse to refund the money for a service I do not and have not used in years saying their memberships are non-refundable. I seek a refund of money for this unwanted membership fee.Business Response

I signed up for a free 7 day trial with American Greeting Cards. I sent some ecards and then saw in my email that a year membership had been activated, which I did not knowingly activate. I only wanted a 7 day trial. I sent an email and then filled out their contact form and it took them 11 days to respond and said that it is clear on their website, but it was not clear. Sending an ecard was supposed to be part of the free 7 day trial so why when you send it did it automatically enroll me in a year long membership? It should not have. It feels like a deceptive practice. I would like a full refund and I would like the account and all my personal information deleted.Business Response

January 28, 2025 was the transaction date. I tried to get a refund immediately after I subscribed on January 28, 2024. They would not issue a refund. I certainly did not sign up for auto-renew that just occurred on 1-28-25. I’ve have called twice today 2-3-25 and was told it is not there policy to ever give a refund. I don’t know of any business I’ve dealt with that has that policy. Please help me get this refund!Business Response
