I like being in the know about what’s going on in my general surroundings. So, since I’d been a regular user of the Xfinity Internet Service, I decided to go all-in on the Xfinity ecosystem and had an Xfinity Home Security Service set up. I paid for the subscription, and all was well.

Unfortunately, I had to move, and Xfinity wasn’t the major player in my new area. This meant I had to change my Internet Service Provider (ISP), but I didn’t necessarily want to get rid of my Xfinity Home Security System. I wondered if there was a way to use it without Service.

I hopped online and spent hours researching to find out if this was possible and what I’d have to do to get this up and running.

Xfinity Home Security lets you own the camera so that you can use it without Service. Disconnect and Reset all the devices in the Xfinity Network and hook it up to your new local network to start using it without service.

Xfinity Camera Without Service

According to the contract, when you buy the Xfinity home security package, you own the camera, So if you don’t want to buy the subscription and keep your security system running, it is very much possible.

You can even buy Xfinity cameras from previous owners and go on to set up your own system. To set up your own system, all you need is the Xfinity camera, Y-cable connector, a pin, and a network connection with all the devices you want to use with the camera and internet.

If you are buying the system pre-owned, you’ll be in a strong negotiating position since the product is pretty new.

If you are canceling your subscription, you are entitled to keep the cameras and the devices along with it to create your own local system.

What Can You Keep After Cancellation

Regardless of whether you bought the Xfinity system from a previous owner or from Xfinity, you get to keep all the equipment that the Xfinity Home Security system comes with when you cancel the subscription.

You lose access to any bundled benefits that you might have been receiving, like voice control with X1 TV service, but the basic purpose of the Security is still served pretty well without the subscription.

How Do I Set Up the Xfinity Camera?

This new offering is aimed at us, who do not need a professionally installed and monitored system but a system enough to give us a high-quality camera with a continuous video recording.

First, you want to reset the camera. The reset button is inaccessible without the pin to avoid any accidental resets. Use the pin to press the reset button, wait for a few seconds, and the reset should be complete.

Next, you want to use the Y Cable connector to ensure the camera’s connection to the internet. After you are sure the internet is connected, you need to connect it to the home network either using Ethernet or Wi-Fi.

Since Xfinity cameras currently have no restrictions on their software, none of the above steps should have any obstacles.

Once you have the network setup, you can look up the IP addresses of each individual camera to set up. The camera IP, a universal protocol, should take care of the rest.

Use your Xfinity Home Security System Without Service

It is a good idea to either pay upfront to be able to go through the Xfinity Early Termination Procedure to avoid the cancellation fee or buy it from previous owners and then hook up the cable box and internet.

If you are very new to the security setup, keeping the subscription for a while might be a good idea, as Xfinity has very eager and prompt customer service.

They can help you get comfortable and well acquainted with the system for an easier transition to your custom setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you talk through Xfinity cameras?

No, you cannot talk through the camera, but you can add more devices to the network or the points you want to facilitate talking at.

Can I use my own cameras with Xfinity Home?

A common doubt among people buying the package is whether or not you can add your own external camera to the Xfinity system.

The Xfinity System comes with four cameras, and you can connect an external camera by connecting the camera’s ethernet cable to the LAN port of Xfinity’s XW3 unit.

The system, however, can only support four cameras at a time, so you will have to disconnect one camera from the system before connecting your camera.

Does Xfinity home security require Xfinity Internet?

Xfinity Home Security System does not require you to have the Xfinity internet connection to use their system.

However, when used with the Xfinity network and their High-End TV service ‘X1’, the Xfinity Home Security System lets you control your home security system and any other device you choose to connect on the network through their voice-controlled remote.
