Friends Reunited is back, sort of, as a new website fills the void left by the social networking site.

The website closed down in February 2016 but there is now a new way for people to reconnect with old school friends.

Schoolmates.co.uk has been launched and offers people the chance to link up with school friends they have lost touch with.

Chris Goodwin, founder of Schoolmates.co.uk, said: “The beauty of the site is that it can be used by anyone and has appeal across all generations whether they are Snapchat, Instagram or Facebook users, the one commonality is that they all went to school.

“I see the site as an extension of social media, but also caters for those who don’t want to be on Facebook or Twitter but would still like to be part of the community.

“Many of our users won’t have heard of Friends Reunited, so for them the idea is fresh, and for those who are old enough to remember – then they already grasp the concept.”

The new website can be used by anyone who attended school in the last 100 years and is designed to be the number one place for schoolmates to keep in touch; the site will appeal to users in different ways depending on their stage of life.

For example, for those who already have left education it will be a place to reconnect and share memories and photographs. For current graduates or anyone in the process of leaving education, it is the online place to visit on prom night or the last day of term to register the year, giving formers students a means, other than social media to stay in touch.

Mr Goodwin added: “This system has its own USPs and allows users to find old classmates by name or even nickname, and they can find friends from however many educational establishments they have attended.

“Even if you didn’t go to school together, you can still search schools in your area and create your own custom group of mates.”
