Isnt there a short cut to add and remove the dollar sign from formulas? I know I can go into an indiviual cell and highlight whatever part of the formula i want to add or remove dollar signs from by hitting the F4 key....but is there a way to highlight multiple cells and have all dollar signs removed?

Excel Facts

Whats the difference between CONCAT and CONCATENATE?
The newer CONCAT function can reference a range of cells. =CONCATENATE(A1,A2,A3,A4,A5) becomes =CONCAT(A1:A5)
Do a Find/Replace (CTRL+H) and search for $ and leave the "replace with" field blank, then click Replace all.

Maybe I'm not understanding the question: you;re trying to remove all dollar signs from a formula, correct? A find/replace will do that.

no..you got it right....and I got the control H thing down for removing the $'s......but on the other side of the coin if I wanted to put the $ in all the formulas in all the cells is there a quicker way to do it than going into each cell...highlighting the formula and hitting F4? In my mind I see highlighting all the cells at once, hitting a short cut , then ta-da!..$'s in all the formulas.

Hi Folks - trying to remove the dollar sign from multiple columns on a spreadsheet - have tried all the above but "MS excel cannot find any data to replace" is the reply I get each time - what am I doing wrong?

Are the dollars part of cell references, or currency symbols?

In that case I suggest you copy one from the formula bar then paste that into the replace dialog, just in case it's actually not a regular $ symbol. If the $ doesn't appear in the formula bar when you select one of the currency cells, then it's just number formatting that you can alter through the Format Cells dialog.
