I see a dash, Excel sees a minus sign.

    Hi,
In one cell, I have a line of text beginning with a bullet. I want to change the bullet to a dash. But when I replace it and click off the cell, the first cell seems to want to preform some action, as though the dash I added is a minus sign. How do I add just a dash without triggering Excel's automatic formula stuff?

Thanks for any help with this.

A formula in Excel is anything that starts with = + or -

If your intent is text, format the cell as text beforehand, or as OC says, precede the entry with a single quote.

Thanks for the info. Formatting the cells as text works perfectly.
