How to Reset Your Snapchat Password

This article explains how to reset your Snapchat password via either email or SMS message. Instructions apply to the app and not the web version.

How to Reset Snapchat Password

1. Open the Snapchat app on your device, select LOG IN, and enter your Snapchat username or email address in the first field.

2. Select Forgot your password? beneath the username and password. You must enter your username or email address in the first field. Otherwise, Snapchat cannot associate the lost password request with your account.

3. Snapchat gives you the option to reset your password by phone (via an automated SMS text or call) or by email message.

Snapchat Password Reset by Phone

Follow these instructions to reset your Snapchat password by phone call or text message.

1. Select via Phone. Snapchat will ask you to provide your phone number.

   You can only choose the phone option if your Snapchat account is associated with that phone number and you have access to that particular mobile device.

2. Select Send via SMS to receive a verification code via text message.

   Select Call me instead to receive a verification code by phone call. Have a pen and paper on hand so you can jot down the code quickly.

3. Once you've received the text or phone call, enter the provided code into the given field, then select Continue. If you entered the code correctly, you'll be able to enter a new password on the following tab, then confirm it by re-entering it again.

4. Select Change Password when you're done.

Snapchat Password Reset by Email

Follow these instructions to reset your password via email.

1. Select via Email and you'll be asked to enter your email address in the field on the next tab, then select Submit.

2. You should receive an email almost instantly from Team Snapchat with the subject line "Snapchat Password Reset." If you don't see it, either wait a few minutes or check your spam folder.

3. Select the link in the email message to open the password reset page in a web browser. Enter your new password in the given field, then re-enter it in the second field to confirm it. Select Change Password when you're done.

   If you have Login Verification enabled on your account, you may be asked to provide your Verification or Recovery Code to log into your account.

When You're Unable to Reset Your Snapchat Password

If you're unable to reset your password, you may be providing incorrect information to verify that you are the individual who owns the account. For security reasons, Snapchat won't allow you to reset your password if:

• The email address you've provided isn't associated with your Snapchat account
• You don't have access to the email account or mobile device associated with your Snapchat account
• You don't know the email address or phone number associated with your Snapchat account

Unless you can remember and gain access to the email account or mobile device associated with your Snapchat account, there's really nothing you or Snapchat can do to recover the account.

Snapchat Password Reset Tips

To strengthen the security of your account when resetting your password, Snapchat suggests you include:

• Eight or more characters
• A combination of uppercase and lowercase letters
• Including numbers and/or symbols

Snapchat also suggests that you do not include:

• Your name
• Username
• Birthday
• Phone number
• Any other personal information

Reset Your Snapchat Password Within Snapchat

You can reset your password within your account too, any time you want, as long as you know what your current password is. Here's how

1. If you're already signed into your account, select your profile/Bitmoji icon, then select the gear icon in the upper-right.

2. Select Password and enter your current password in the given field. Select Continue to enter and re-enter a new password in the following fields using the tips suggested above.

3. Select Save when done and remember to write down your password, or save it in your password manager so that you don't forget it again.
