Earning and redeeming rewards with Chase Pay

Store loyalty cards

Do you keep a keychain or wallet full of loyalty cards for your favorite merchants? Chase Pay allows you to store loyalty cards so that you can apply any available offers or discounts when you check out. In addition, Chase Pay allows you to earn the same credit card rewards you normally do with your Chase cards.

Use Chase Ultimate Rewards®

You can also use your Chase Ultimate Rewards® points to pay for purchases made by Chase Pay. You can redeem you points for a statement credit using the Chase pay app or online with any merchants that use Chase Pay as a payment method.

If you don’t have enough points to pay for the entire purchase, you can use your rewards to pay for just a portion. When you redeem your points this way, you’ll get $0.80 for every 100 points redeemed.

How it works

To use your Chase Ultimate Rewards® points to make a purchase with the app, you first tap the blue Pay button at the bottom of the Chase Pay app screen. Then, you just tap the image of the  credit card account that you want to use points from, located directly below the QR code. Finally, you tap the slider button to use points, and it will turn blue when activated.

Chase Freedom Flex℠ and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card members can also use Chase Pay to redeem their Chase Ultimate Rewards® points for eGift Cards to use at participating merchants. Theses eGift Cards are electronic versions of merchant gift cards.

You can also earn a $200 bonus after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening.

When you get there, you can go right to pickup area because you’ve already paid with Chase Pay.

Other systems like Chase Pay

Chase Pay is just one of many emerging electronic payment systems. Here’s a brief overview of some others;

Venmo

This system, which is owned by PayPal is primarily a digital wallet that allows you to send money to other people.

It’s free to send money between bank accounts, but not surprisingly, there’s a charge for using a credit card. As primarily a peer-to-peer system, it isn’t accepted at many merchants.

Google Pay

This service allows you to send money between bank accounts for free, with a surcharge for credit card use. You can also send money from person to person.

Google Pay has its own app, but also allows you to pay with other apps that accept Google Pay. Google Pay can also be used for public transit in cities like Chicago, Las Vegas, London, and Portland, Oregon.

Paypal

Paypal is primarily an online payment system, but it also allows peer-to-peer payments and is accepted in some stores.

Apple Pay

This payment system is exclusive to compatible iPhones and watches. It also allows  peer-to-peer payments and is widely accepted in many, but not all stores.

Android Pay

Like Apple Pay, this system support peer-to-peer payments and is accepted in some stores. Of course, it’s only compatible with Android devices.

Samsung Pay

This is very similar to Android Pay, but newer Samsung phones also include Magnetic Secure Transmission technology that makes it compatible with most standard credit card readers.

Summary

Chase Pay is an easy-to-use payment app that can also offer you discounts at select merchants. If you’re a Chase customer, you can use your Chase Ultimate Rewards® through Chase Pay.
