Kirtland Federal Credit Union's Tom Shoemaker will retire at the end of the year, and the financial institution has hired a Texas firm to recruit his replacement, according to a news release.
The 65-year-old Shoemaker has spent more than 20 years at Kirtland, and in October 2017 he was named interim president and CEO. In May 2018, the interim label was dropped. Shoemaker succeeded David Seely, who had been with the credit union since 1990.
In total, Shoemaker has spent more than 45 years in the banking industry. More than 27 of those were spent at Kirtland Federal Credit Union, Monday's news release said.
“The board would like to take this opportunity to thank Tom for his years of dedicated service to Kirtland Federal Credit Union and its membership. We wish him success in all his future endeavors,” Brian McDonald, chair of Kirtland's board of directors, said in the news release.
In 2019, under Shoemaker's leadership, Kirtland announced it would implement a three-person security department that would protect members from data and identity theft.
The board of directors of Kirtland Federal Credit Union has hired D. Hilton Associates to conduct a nationwide search to find its next president and CEO. The company is based in Woodlands, Texas.
Kirtland Federal Credit Union is one of the largest credit unions in the state. It ranked No. 4 on Albuquerque Business First's List of Largest Credit Unions with more than $775 million in New Mexico assets in 2019. The credit union has 139 full-time employees and 47,454 members.
