Worst customer service experience I have EVER had. I’ve been trying for 2 months to get my prescription (that I’ve been on for 15 years of my life) covered at a reasonable cost. I’ve made countless phone calls and spent hours on the phone. Each person I speak to tells me something different, no one wants to help, and everyone sounds absolutely miserable. Today was the icing on the cake, as I had a rep raise their voice and speak so disrespectfully to me that the other rep on the line had to abruptly end the call, profusely apologize, and complain to their supervisor. And the issue still hasn’t been resolved. If I had any choice in the matter, I’d cease to do business with them immediately, but unfortunately they provide my employer-sponsored health benefits. Truly the worst company I’ve ever had to do business with. I’ll be looking into filing a complaint with my state health insurance bureau, as others have suggested.

If I could give a -10 it wouldn't be low enough, been dealing with them for over 3 years. They have a few good people but 99% of them are the most incompetent on every level. They lie, give bad info and make billing errors with no billing dept to talk to.

This company (OptumRx) is dangerous and doesn't give a damn about you. They will outright lie to you on the phone, cancel orders without notifying you, and may or may not ship meds to you. I feel that it's Russian Roulette every time I have to deal with them. You don't know when or if you will get your meds. Why the federal government hasn't broken up all of United Healthcare and their companies, is beyond me. The worst healthcare company out there and it's a damn shame my employer forces me to use them for the insurance plan they use. Very dangerous company and I'm debating leaving my current employer to get the medications I need without them playing Russian Roulette with my medications.

I have the “silver” HSA plan through United Healthcare with Optum RX. After “coverage,” my kindergartner’s generic ADHD meds cost $175/month. Then they say “well it has a $0 copay. You just have to pay your entire deductible before that kicks in.” This should be illegal. Charging even half that amount for a child’s medicine should be illegal. Optum RX is fraud.

Optum Rx is horrible. I was promised my medication as a rush because I would be out of them within 5 day. I’m a heart, Lupus & diabetes patient. I need my meds on time. I had spoken to 4 different reps at the least, who assured me that 2 of the 5 meds would be here by April 13. On the 14 I was told now that a rush was not put on those 2. I asked to speak with management who basically was rude (Brian). I asked were there conversations recorded so that they could hear the miscommunication from each rep. This company deserves no stars, the only good thing about them is that some of their meds are discounted. Don’t waste your time unless it’s the price that helps you most of all. Be aware!

My medication cost have tripled using Optum Rx. I have a manufacturer coupon and I can only use it for monthly refills. I called a couple times to try and see if customer service could help with no luck. Even though I am paying triple than I should be, they don't care. Don't advertise that you will save people money when you can't. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

Optum RX is horrible at filling prescription for diabetic supplies IE pump supplies and cgm. Every 90 days there’s a problem. They say they need pre authorization from my dr. My doctor provided them with everything 90 earlier, and 90 before that, and 90 days before that. Crazy thing is I’m a type one on insulin so No pre authorization is needed for Medicare plan B.

Every CS representative has a different reason why there’s a problem. They claim it’s been fixed and it’s not. The biggest issue is my 90 days supply is dwindling down and I have no clue when I’ll get my supplies. Last time it took two weeks. Btw my endo is the chief endocrinologist at a large hospital with a full staff to deal with stuff like this. They are very good at getting things done. They are also extremely frustrated with OptumRX. My phone contact for the is Optum RX idiots.

Wish I could rate them a zero. I loosely use the words Pharmacy Care Service, because they don't "care" about that, what they care about is money. They will deny necessary medication for ANY reason, regardless of how much sense it makes, in order to avoid spending money on said medication and therefore not making as much profit.

There have been several incidents in the past 5 years, prescriptions magically disappearing from my list, prescriptions changing (dosage, specifics) without my provider updating anything, auto-refills becoming manual refills without notification, medication lists on the website and the mobile app not matching, and more, but today was the greatest of them all.

My wife was put on ** a couple years ago for her Type 2 diabetes. Nothing else worked well, ** and others, but ** was like a miracle. Her A1C was over 12, before **. She's dropped over 50 pounds, her appetite is under control, she feels great, and her latest A1C was 5.5. To show that it is definitely the ** helping her get things under control, when she had to get back on ** or nothing for a few weeks due to the ** shortages the past year, her estimated A1C numbers always start creeping up. Soon as the ** arrives and is used, they start going down again.

Enter OptumRx. Every year she has to get "prior approval" for the medication. Today we get a voicemail (not a phone call, straight to voice mail) telling us her ** has been denied. I call **, and am told that she doesn't meet the minimum criteria for **, specifically the minimum 6.5 A1C... How does that makes sense? The entire reason she's below the minimum A1C is BECAUSE of the **. If she's off she's just going to end up over 6.5 and having to be on ** again. I understand in fantasy land she can control it with diet and exercise, but we're in the real world, and if diet and exercise cured Type 2 diabetes we wouldn't need **. This is like denying someone that's on ** due to high blood pressure that same ** because now their numbers are too low. What do you think got it under control?

I understand that to get on ** INITIALLY you should need to be at 6.5 A1C or above, but for MAINTENANCE the criteria should be something else. I will keep informing our HR personnel of my interactions with OptumRx, and suggesting that we should strongly consider our company switch to a different Pharmacy management body when the current contracts are up for renewal.

Eventually my prescription was filled but I never heard from them about why I was kept on hold for 3 hours. Probably never going to try to call their customer service again!

    Original Review: April 9, 2024

Absolutely terrible company. Exemplifies everything wrong with the American healthcare scam - whoops, I mean "industry". Companies like this one are why we pay more for health care and get less out of it than any other country. Because of parasites like OptumRx. I hung up last night because I had to go to bed... after spending my evening with my ear glued to an earpiece waiting in Hold Music Hell for *literally 2 hours and 50 minutes* to try to get information on a prescription that is out of stock. That's all I wanted. My problem could have been solved in a few minutes, but they chose to ignore me just like they ignore most of their customers.

I wondered how long they would actually keep me on hold before answering. The answer is, "until you give up." Or die of old age, which they'd probably prefer. But then you wouldn't be able to keep paying them money while getting no service, which is their entire business model, and in fact the business model of most of the insurance industry. If there is a Hell, the people who run that company and profit from it are definitely going there. And there they will listen to that smarmy hold music for eternity... And every 1 minute a soothing condescending voice will intone "we apologize for the extended delay. your time is very important to us! please stay on the line and someone will be with you shortly."

This company should be ashamed of themselves. Been almost a month and still haven't received my meds. Go through this everytime. My physician sent the script, send my meds, I SHOULD NOT have to call them to process it.
