Did you mean:

Porting your number from Petro Canada Mobility to Public Mobile.

Not so much a question but more of a solution... Speaking with Petro Canada Mobility they tell me that your PIN is the same as your password. All you will need to port the number is the PIN/Password and the IMEI.

To my knowledge, nothing has changed for the Public Mobile account activation process.  However, the reason for a moderator/CSA previously being needed wasn't related to the number coming from Petro Canada, but rather because Public Mobile at one point disabled all selve serve number porting for security reaons.

Currently, when porting a number from a Petro Canada, customers can and should do it from within in the Public Mobile Self Serve account.  There is no need to provide information about who the old carrrier is during this process.  I'm uncertain as to why Public Mobile continues to ask that question if someone is porting during activation as Public Mobile is already capable of looking up this information.

Don't use your PIN, you don't have to use all the things they request. Just :

  • name on the account and
  • account number will do.

Or name on the account and IME#

But best to use the first. I thought Petro Can you would have to get the moderators involved, maybe an oracle could clarify?

In the case of number ports of Petro-Canada and Speakout 7-11 Wireless, account number should never be used. They do not have an account number that differs from the phone number. If you use only the account number, porting will fail. I don't believe that typing in the phone number as the Petro Canada account number will cause any problem if you provide a valid IMEI or account PIN, but the account number itself won't do anything.

Petro Canada phone numbers can be ported to Public Mobile without the help of a moderator if the request is made during the initial activation.

Earlier in this thread, it was stated not to use the PIN. The fact that there are questions about which number adds to that argument not to use it. It is not required. The account PIN often gets confused with self serve account password, SIM card PIN, and vociemail password, all of which can be different.

Soon, using the account PIN for number porting at Public Mobile won't be an option. It'll be either account number or IMEI that can be used.

General porting info.

Number porting is a 2 stage process:

Stage 1. After submitted your porting request, PM set up your old number on your PM account. Login to your account. Select the [Plan and Add-Ons] tab. Is your old number showing on the [Plan and Add-Ons] display?
If yes, PM has done its work to setup your old number for you to call out, send text and data.
If no, you should create a support ticket for moderator to investigate. Moderator wait time is up to 2 - 3 days. https://publicmobile.ca.ada.support/chat/

Stage 2. Now, you are waiting for your old provider to release you number to PM. Not until your old provider release your number, all the incoming calls and texts will continue to go to your old provider. You can continue to use the old provider SIM card until it stops working which is the indication that your number was released to PM.

Petro Can and Speakout account are managed by the same company.  If we provide correct info, port will go through smoothly without any problem.  If the port is not stuck, no need to get moderator help.
