Q&A: My new checking account Here are a few tips to get started with your new UICCU checking account.

Q: What are some best practices for managing a checking account? A: Stay connected with our free online and mobile banking services to monitor your account and set up email, phone, or text alerts to notify you when balances fall below your designated amount. Q: How can I use my savings account to help my checking? A: Keep extra funds in your savings account. If you overdraw your checking, your savings account can act as a safety net and automatically transfer funds to cover the needed amount. While you will pay a small transfer fee, it’s a fraction of the cost of an overdraft fee. Q: How do I avoid the $1 ATM usage fee with my debit card? A: You can avoid this fee by withdrawing money from UICCU or Allpoint ATMs and selecting “credit” when using your debit card at stores and gas stations. Q: What are the benefits of using bill payer online? A: Bill Payer is a free service that allows you to pay your bills through our secure online banking system. Rather than give other companies access to pull funds from your account (which at times is difficult to stop), you control how and when your bills get paid. You don’t pay the postage expense or use up your checks. Q: How do I avoid fees when using my debit card at stores or gas stations? A: Choose “credit” when using your debit card at the checkout line or gas pump. That way you do not have to use your Personal Identification Number (the four-digit “PIN”). You won’t be charged the $1 ATM fee, and the transaction posts just as it would if you had used the PIN. Rewards Checking members are reimbursed these fees up to $10/month. Q: What if I have a check to deposit and the UICCU is not open? A: UICCU now offers Mobile Remote Deposit Capture. Members can take a photo of a check and deposit it in their UICCU account remotely using our mobile app. Additionally, all UICCU offices have the latest Image ATM technology. You can deposit checks directly into your account and you will receive an image of the check on your receipt. We also have night drop boxes in the drive ups at all our offices. Drop them in the box and they will be processed the next business morning. Q: Why should I sign up for e-Statements? A: This free service is more secure than having a statement sitting in your mailbox, and you’ll receive it much faster than a paper statement. Over a year’s worth of statements and tax documents are stored automatically for you, in case you need to reconcile them at a later date. Q: Can I manage accounts that I have at OTHER places through online banking? A: Yes. If you can view your other accounts online, you can pull them all into UICCU’s system to view with a single sign on. Just click on MyFi360O within online banking to be guided through the simple process of adding accounts.
