The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority of Ghana launched an online platform to enable people needing the services of the DVLA to access, so they would not always have to visit the DVLA head office or regional offices for such services.

This platform enhances the speed of acquiring and processing drivers license, number plate acquisition among other DVLA services nationwide and extends government’s institution effort of digitizing the economy.

Using the online Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) Online Portal may be difficult for first time users. This article guides you on how to Register, Renew Drivers License, Vehicles, Cars and access all other DVLA services online.

How To Register On the DVLA Online  Portal

    1. To begin the DVLA registration process first visit online.dvla.gov.gh/sign_in
    2. Then Click “signup free” at the bottom of the Sign in page.
    3. Then Select “Individual” in the Popup menu.
    4. The applicant registration form opens up
    5. Fill in the following details under the Basic Information tab:
      1. Select Your title (Mr. or Mrs)
      2. Select Your Gender (Male or female)
      3. Then Enter your date of birth in the following order (Day, Month and Year)
      4. Select Where you were born (Place of birth)
      5. Then Enter Your surname, your first name and middle name (If any)
      6. Then Enter Your employer’s name (Example Self-employee)
      7. Then Select your nationality
      8. Afterwards Enter your previous name (Any other name you’ve had before a name change )
      9. Then Select the type of ID Card you want to use for identity (this can be: Voters ID, National ID, Health Insurance, SSNIT or Passport).
    6. Afterwards Enter the ID card number in the ID No. column
    7. Then Click on Next
    8. Enter the following information Under the Contact Information Tab :
      1. Your postal address (eg P.O. Box 23)
      2. Then Enter the town of the postal address in the city column (Example, Teshie – Accra)
      3. Then Select your region from the drop down list.
      4. Afterwards Enter your email address in the email address column
      5. Then Enter the name of your area in the “suburb” column
      6. Then Enter your street address in the “street address” column.
      7. Afterwards Enter your house number
    9. Then Enter your mobile phone number in mobile number Column.
    10. Afterwards Click on next to move to the next step.
    11. Enter the following information Under the Account Credentials Tab:
    12. Enter a name you can easily recollect In the user name column, .
    13. Then Enter a preferred password in the password column.
    14. Afterwards Repeat the password in the “confirm password” column.
    15. Then Click next to continue
    16. On the next page a preview of all the details you had entered in the previous three pages.
    17. Review the details to be sure that everything is correct and click on the next button.
    18. Incase you have any wrongly entered data,  click on the edit button at the top of each table to edit it before moving on.
    19. At this point You are done with registering on the DVLA Online Portal

 

How To Sign In On the Online DVLA Portal

  1. To Sign In To the DVLA Online Portal first visit: online.dvla.gov.gh/sign_in
  2. Then enter the Username and Password you created during the registration above
  3. Afterwards click the sign in button
  4. If your Username and Password and password are correct, you will be successfully sign in to the DVLA Online Portal
  5. You can now access all the DVLA online services.

 

How To Get A New Driving License In Ghana

 

Below is How To Get A New Driving License In Ghana. To get your drivers license, you have to pass both the theory and practical exams issued by DVLA.  This is available to both new drivers and experienced drivers who require a driving license.

All who apply for the DVLA driving license for the first time are required by the DVLA regulations to first apply for the Learners Drivers License after which the actual Drivers License would be issued.

Experienced drivers or those who previously owned drivers licenses issued by DVLA, do not have  go through this process.

 

Learner Drivers License

To get a new driving license, you must first be issued A Learner Drivers License. According to procedure, A Learner Driver’s Licence has to be acquired for a period of three (3) months before you can apply for the actual licence.

  2. You must be Minimum of 18 years of age

The following are the 6 types or classes of driving license in Ghana :

  1. Class A – A Class A driving License is for Drivers who drive Motorcycles.
  2. Class B – A Class B driving License Is for Drivers who can drive minibuses, pick up vehicles that contain 1-15 passengers.
  3. Class C – A Class C driving License Is for drivers who can drive buses with moderate goods. The vehicle Must contain not between 1-45 passengers.
  4. Class D – A Class D driving License is for Drivers who Drive coaches and heavy duty vehicles and buses, the vehicle must contain 1-65 passengers.
  5. Class E – A Class driving E License  is for those who drive industrial equipment like harvesters, bulldozers, forklifts etc.
  6. Class F – A Class F driving License is for Drivers who can drive heavy carrying vehicles like articulators etc.

 

How To Get A New Drivers License In Ghana

  1. First Purchase and complete Forms F and F1 from the DVLA
  2. You will then undergo a Physical examination and eye test
  3. You will be issued a Learner Driver’s Permit, L-Plate, Syllabus and Highway Code after Payment
  4. You will undergo a Compulsory 48-hour training with a DVLA accredited driving school
  5. Afterwards your biometric information will Captured and you will be scheduled for written test which takes the following forms: Written exams (Computer-Based Test)
