Scam Alert My husband just received a call from Sheriff Jimmy Davis office who claimed to be an officer with the sheriff department (the name he used is actually an officer) saying he missed a court date and needed to go to some random place or an online portal and pay $4000.00 to get a signature verification. Of course he refused..but the person got aggressive and said he would be arrested. We called the sheriff's office and they confirmed it was a scam. Then an hour later our neighbor called and said he received the same call! So beware..THIS IS A SCAM..HANG UP.

Scam Alert! A very sophisticated scam against snow birds. The caller identifies as a Loudon county deputy Sheriff who is actually listed on their website including badge #, whether badge # is true I didn't confirm. The imposter informs the target that their are outstanding warrants as a result of jury duty summons that just so happen be sent a couple of days before mail forwarding stops. He then says due to having a clean record they give a courtesy call so it can be taken care of, bond posted without arrest. They pretend to be in a three way call with the Sheriff James Davis. They also tell you not to talk to anyone about this except your lawyer, not to make any phone calls or take texts and stay with them on the line the whole time and of course this has to happen in the next two hours or they will send sheriffs out to arrest you. The big tell is they want you to deposit the money at a Qwick Mart on Mulberry Street in Loudon. Before which they send a QR code via text to use for the deposit. This may sound like no problem that a scam would be recognized right away. But they were pretty slick & rattling. I thought I would have caught on much earlier but the fear of arrest has a nasty effect. Well I had my wife to call and verify the deputy Sheriff name and warrants. She was told the sheriff was out of the country and there were no warrants. I was actually going to go to the sheriffs office. But since my wife's text assured me of the scam I told the guy it was a scam hung up and called the Sheriffs office and got the only line to answer who said her phone was ringing off the hook with scams all morning. Beware and not a victim!
