Introduction to Computer Programming (COP 1000)

Course Objective

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to computer programming concepts using Alice 3 Programming Language. Students will learn how to analyze assignments, design a solution using a storyboard approach, and then use the Alice integrated development environment (IDE) to program an animated, graphic solution.

Alice Program Installation

Alice is freely available at the site. To download Alice, follow these instructions

Go To http://alice.org - Click Get Alice - Alice 3 -Click on the Download (select Windows or Mac)

Installing Alice 3

Alice provides an Installer Wizard to guide you through the steps of installing on your computer.

Mac Computers Error - "Alice 3 Installer can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software." - To fix this error go to System Preferences - Security & Privacy - Under "General Tab" - Click on "Open Anyway" on the Allow apps downloaded.

How to install Alice in a Chromebook

Students should double-click the Alice icon on their desktops (Windows) or under Applications in Finder (Mac) to start Alice.

CLASS ASSIGNMENTS

All class information, syllabus, assignments, grades, etc. will be available in Schoology until FIU gives students FIU-Canvas access:

FIU - Canvas username and password login are the same as your FIU Login. You will be able to have a login after you complete your DE application. Mrs. Florian will walk you through this process.
