FSA ID Information

In order to sign your FAFSA, Entrance Counseling, or Master Promissory Note (MPN), you will need to create a FSAID.  If you are a dependent student, your parent will also need to create their own FSAID so they can sign your FAFSA each year.

Be sure to keep your FSAID secure.  It is your signature with the US Department of Education.

How to create a FSAID

The FSAID is a username and password which must be used to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education websites. Your FSA ID confirms your identity when you access your financial aid information and electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents. If you do not already have an FSA ID, you can create one when logging in to Federal Student Aid and the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).

Step 1 - When logging in to one of the websites listed above, click the link to create an FSA ID, or go directly to Create an FSA Account.

Step 2 - Create a username and password, and enter your email address.  Only one email address can be used for each FSAID created so if your parent needs to create one also, they will need their own email address.

Step 3 - Enter your name, date of birth, Social Security number, contact information, and challenge questions and answers.  

Step 4 - Review your information, and read and accept the terms and conditions.

Step 5 - Confirm your email address using the secure code, which will be sent to the email address you entered when you created your FSAID.  It is also a good idea to verify your cell phone number with the secure code.   Once you verify your email address, you can use it instead of your username to log in to the websites. You can use your FSAID to sign a FAFSA right away. Once the Social Security Administration verifies your information in one to three days, or if you have linked your PIN to your FSA ID, you will be able to use your FSA ID to access the websites listed above.
