Everything was going smoothly until it came time to cancel, which proved to be a frustrating process. There was confusion with different agents giving conflicting information, leading to unnecessary expenses at the UPS store for faxing documents. It seems that there is a lack of organization when it comes to requested documents. While I typically maintain composure on the phone, Gerber has made the cancellation process unnecessarily difficult, requiring excessive steps to complete.

Even after cancellation, I continued to receive "loan-payment" receipts, with payments being made using the policy's cash value disclosing the interest rate with money they TOOK. I did not request any loans on my children's policies, and I had higher expectations of Gerber. It is disappointing to see that they do not meet those expectations. My new life insurance company is far better. Please think twice before using this outdated company. And their agents will not let you finish a sentence before cutting you off and leading to you repeating yourself incessantly.

I grew up trusting the name Gerber so I took out policies several years ago for my grandchildren. For the past month, I have attempted to cancel those policies as they are no longer needed. I cannot express the difficulties I have encountered attempting to do so and the amount of time wasted as well. Not all, but most, representatives have been uncooperative, discourteous, and have hung up when they decided they were not going to assist me nor understand why their information was not yet correct. While I was finally able to cancel three of the four via registered mail, the fourth policy was not cancellable because, according to them, since that child was 21 the policy reverted to him.

The issue was that he was NOT 21 when this process began a month ago. NOW he is 21 but they kept blaming their "system" and finally admitted on the 22nd that they were at fault, he did not yet own the policy, and I was told to find a fax machine to get the cancellation to them before he turned 21. I don't know where they thought this would be able to happen because it was the afternoon before Thanksgiving and they would not reopen until the following week. We are not talking a lot of money, like $18, but it is the principle of the issue and the fact that they avoided assisting me and were dishonest regarding the policy owner.

I finally spoke with "Jason" (who was allegedly an agent, not a "service rep" as he said all the others were) and he suggested the amount would pay the premiums for about a year and a half so I agreed and requested verification via email as to the terms and conversation. I don't know why I was surprised that I never received anything through email. When I called to check today (the 29th) as to whether it was ever sent, I was informed that since he finally turned 21 a few days ago, I am no longer the policy holder so they cannot tell me anything nor did they email anything regarding that conversation with "Jason".

When I initially purchased all four policies they were so helpful and nice but they certainly are not if you attempt to cancel. I never, ever expected this to happen with a company I grew up trusting. I paid premiums every month on time for years. However, my personal experience has been a nightmare the past month and, if you elect to do the survey after the phone calls, it will not let you. Hence the review.

I started grow up plans for my three grandsons when they were born. Now 18, 15, and 11 years old. I took out the money that had built up over 18 years for the oldest for graduation. Come to learn it has to be repaid. That's plain ridiculous!! I'm on a fixed income now!! I'm cancelling all plans. I feel like I've been ripped off.

I really love this company. They are extraordinary in what they do. I was able to get the insurance I need to ensure that my daughter will be protected if something were to ever happen to me. I recommend them to everyone that needs that extra coverage and stability.

I completed the application thinking I should get the plan but changed my mind before hitting the submit payment button. These people decided to process the payment anyways. They didn't send a confirmation email or anything else to my email to show they would take the payment out. They didn't even acknowledge the application had been submitted. Please be VERY careful with this company. If they are willing to take payment without you submitting just imagine what other deceitful tactics they will engage in.

I'm a little disappointed in the process and respond time they take. Also I'm disappointed that they denied kids that is highly fuction on the spectrum for autism. That received early intervention for autism. That is managing and who does not need to go to the doctors very often for it... how can you denied coverage. You can never speak to anyone. Each representative gives you the runaround.

I purchased life insurance for my 5 kids years ago. There was a time when coverage lapsed and I called to restart a new policy. I was told this was no problem and the boys would still have coverage that would become theirs when they become adults. Two of my boys policies have changed over to them when they became adults. Now this year I get a letter saying because coverage lapses in the past (which was many years ago and I repurchased the plan), that their policies were cancelled. This is disgusting and shady and I should get all of my money back because they’re crooks!

So my story with Gerber comes through a federal program connected with them. Everything seemed okay when I got life insurance for my mother, except the price kept changing and changing. Then I didn't get the paper work for my policy for 30 days+ and they did not take money from my account for 20+ days, then the price JUMPED. By the time I was informed on the final monthly price of the insurance it had tripled in price was was over 200 per month.

At the end of all that, "Oh you just got your policy paperwork? Well it's past 30 days." I'm changing my bank account info because of the way these people acted. I think they will try and steal more. Habits, changing price over 30 days, delay paperwork to the consumer, limit change price and finally over charge at the end of the 30 days, allow paper work to reach the policy holder at the end of 30 days. IF SEEMS INTENTIONAL THEN IT may BE.

I've had Gerber Life Insurance for the past 50 years. Their cost are low and customer service is outstanding. I would never choose another life insurance. They have been good to me and my family and would say give them a look if you need insurance.

I obtained 2 policies for each of my kids when they were babies. I have consistently paid these policies for 20 years. Over the last year I am receiving notices that payments are due when I have been sending them bi-weekly payments for premiums and payments between $25-100 for the loans. They are now repeatedly refusing to provide any accounting on the payments, refusing a payment audit to account for all of the payments submitted, and will not speak or correspond with me and will only speak to my kids. One is disabled so that's out of the question.

I have a legal right to have an accounting and verification of the application of payments to these premiums and loans since there is clear evidence they are not applying my payments to the loans, and INSTEAD paying advance premiums so that they can prolong the interest and existence of these small loans. This is FRAUD. They are intentionally not applying payments to the loans so that Interest can continue to accrue and the loans never get paid off. They need to comply with my demand for an accounting. You cannot take someone's money, misapply the funds, refuse to communicate about the funds provided, and continue to force someone to accrue interest on something that should already be paid off! This is criminal. This is what Navient is being sued for in a class action.

Gerber Life Insurance is an affiliate of the Gerber baby food company, although the two are financially independent from one another. Gerber has been providing life insurance since 1967 with a focus on children and young parents. They currently sell policies throughout the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

    • Insurance for children: They are best known for their Gerber Life Grow-Up Plan, which provides whole life insurance coverage for children. Parents, grandparents and legal guardians may apply for this policy on behalf of children between 14 days and 14 years of age.

    • College savings plan: They also offer an endowment life insurance policy, which acts like a savings plan to pay for your child's college tuition while protecting you with coverage. You do not have to use it toward college expenses.

    • Web-based account management: They provide access to your account and allow you to manage your policy through Gerber Life eService from any Internet-enabled device.

    • Automatic payment discounts: They give up to a 10 percent discount to policyholders who set up automatic monthly payment deductions to be taken out of their bank account.

    • Accident protection: They guarantee approval for applicants to their Accident Protection Insurance offering with no physical exam or medical questions. Applicants must be between the ages of 19 and 69.
